Encore Onslaught Comparison Picture

The production of Transformers is an endless cycle. As time goes on, more and more Transformers are made, thus the older toys are left behind. Yet Takara Tomy avoids this. Their Encore series gives new fans an opportunity to buy figures that they would never have given a chance to before. ACToys.net gives us a comparison shot of Encore #16 Bruticus' central body component, Onslaught. The rest of the Combaticons are not pictured, but Encore Onslaught is compared to a Knockout version, as well as his G1 counterpart. G1 Bruticus and G1 Onslaught can be seen here on Seibertron.com. Take what you will from the picture, and join in on the discussion in our forums!

Why are they using a bootlegged Dorailer for comparison?

From what we saw before, this will just be the U.S. RiD Mega-Octane version of the mold in G1 Onslaught colors.

By "Knockout version," you mean knock-off, right? ;;)
A shop I worked in used to sell those oddly-coloured KOs. I was awfully tempted to pick up a few.

So the biggest difference (other than the stickers) between TFE and G1 appears to be the rifle is MUCH shorter on TFE, and the 'brown' browner and not as green.

There's also a hole on top of the twin cannons' base that the gun or shield/ramp can be inserted into.

Ah, didn't notice that.

As I already described in my previous post, the mold used is the 1.Valdigus variant (it even has the TM NAS copyright stamped on them.)
2.The backpack cannon has additional slots where you can fit the back ramp
3.Cannon barrels are solid as compared to the G1 1985 version which was hollow (but the G1 version is much smoother where the barrel sticks out.
4.Onsluaght's gun is shorter and has holes that allow you to "merge" his fellow Combaticons' weapons (like that of Landcross)

Primary complaint is the neatness of the molding. Is this due to the master molding getting worn out? How to describe the degradation.........

1. Onslaught's arm sockets has been roughly cut (seen in previous pics)
2. There are like (scorched marks? that's how I describe it) on the entire body. Like the military green luster on him have an off and on quality making them appear to be uneven or lumpy when in fact it is smooth.

The shorter rifle was made for American market RiD Mega-Octanes. CarRobots Dolrailer has the same rifle in full Onslaught size.

Fortunately I still have my original Onslaught rifle. Unfortunately, I guess I'm going to need to have "Ruination" holes drilled into one.
It's nice that they have the original vehicle launch feature in this one though.
As for the red eyes, don't they remember that the show- and comic- accurate Onslaughts had yellow eyes? I'm still partial to the orange ones though.

By retaining the American sized Mega-Octane rifle, it's either a) There are now stricter safety standards in Japan or b) Another cost cutting measure by lessening the PVC/ABS content or I might be having too much of a free time in my hands...........

Might also a be a change to make it easier to tell the new one from the original, maybe to try to prevent people from passing it off as a vintage figure.

Love the avatar, by the way.

All subsequent releases of this mold following its Hasbro RiD release use the Mega-Octane version with the added holes and the shorter gun barrel.

Dorailer was the last release of the mold without the shortened gun barrel, and Great Cannon before him was the last use of the mold without any of the changes made to it (being a straight redeco of the original Onslaught version).

Encore Bruticus arrived in the post yesterday and whilst the packaging and look of the figure are great, the overall quality is questionable.

It all feels rather tacky and the mouldings are dreadful in places. Where the gun turret is supposed to fit into the back of Onslaught's head for the base mode this is so loose it doesn't stay in!

But I never had them as a kid and still think they are great!!

Unless they were basing it om the oversized Korean KO, I wouldn't bother.

The old combiners were all too small and that's what they should rectify. KO Onslaught is the same size as G1 Ultra Magnus in both modes and that's how it should be.

@ harrogatebantam31

The reason the cannon doesn't attach well in base mode is because it has been assembled incorrectly, at least that was the case with mine.

The connecting piece, with the two posts, needs to be switched around so that the flat side of it is on the same side as the barrels of the cannon. There are two screws under the back of the cannon piece that if removed allow you to remove and reposition the hinge piece correctly -- the same way as on G1 Onslaught.

There are clearly quality problems with this set, as with all of the Encore line IMO. I don't know much about 'mold degradation' and such, but it appears the plastic and assembly is inferior quality to the G1 originals. The tampographs being the exception, no matter how you measure it, the overall quality of today's Encore line is simply not comparable to the original Japan produced G1. It's probably due to conscious cost-cutting decisions on the part of TT to maximize profit from the line.

And it works, because even after I said I wouldn't buy anymore, I keep buying Encore knowing there will be disappointments. #-o

I got a quick question on the original Bruticus:
Does Bruticus shield comes with a Decepticon insignia? If so, that has to be pre-applied, right? Because Onslaught sticker sheet does not indicate any insignia goes to Bruticus shield.

I see some pics show with one and some do not. I just want to get the fact right before purchasing one.

Cheers for that, switched it around and it works much better! Not perfect but a definate improvement!
