Interesting looking colour scheme, definitely need to see better pics!

Beast Wars Transmetal Magatron? Or at least that's what the color scheme indicates. If so it gives me a reason to pick up the mold.

I wonder if this will tie in with Movie 4 Grimlock colors.

Well, that's an unexpected redeco for Grim, but a pretty cool one at that!

Finally! I was wondering when that Megatron retool was going to happen. We didn't see any update about since like a year!

Unless my Japanese is slipping a bit, "Fire Guts Grimlock" and Thundercracker will be store exclusives. Not that surprised.

Sorry, he'll most likely be using the regular head since it's still Grimlock, and not BW Megatron as someone before me suggested.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. We have no confirmation of this, as the image is too small to know if it's this tooling or not.

Well crap, it looks like I should have skipped that Hasbro Thundercracker after all . Oh well, he can become a generic WfC/FoC seeker I guess.

Either Fireguts Grimlock, or Beast Wars Transmetals II Megatron Homage, OR both.
As in, it's supposed to be Fireguts Grimlock, but uses the Beast Wars Megatron head and the TM2 colours. Double homage!

Well, the colour scheme does look more like BW TM2 Megatron than it does Fireguts Grimlock. What little we can see of the head also kinda looks like the top of the remolded BW Megatron head.
I predict we'll see better pics within a week.

That color scheme is too red to be Transmetal Megatron.

It looks more like a Red Ranger's Zord (MMPR, Dino Thunder, or Kyoryuger) to me, than anything.

So it is a double homage, just not the way I thought it was. And I was wrong about the head.

Those prototype images make it look a bit fugly, but the production version will probably look way better

bah! saw Grimmy in the thumbnail and immediately hoped for a similarly bonkers Action Master Thundercracker repaint. Oh well, the dino looks okay.

edit: I propose calling him Fire Butt Grimlock, just cause.

It does look neat, and I love obscure homages like this, but I don't know if I want that doom-lock on my shelf yet. I'll need more pictures.

No, actually I can't because I don't read the comics. The Thrilling 30 line is just more Generations/Classics/whatever to me and just because Hasbro and IDW decided to repurpose an existing mold from a different continuity (sorry, but this IS an FoC mold, period) doesn't mean that I have to .

Thanks to Bic Camera we have a couple of larger images of the recently revealed Takara Tomy Fire Blast Grimlock, a redeco of the FOC Voyager Grimlock mold. The figure is priced at 4780 Yen (around $46.00) and scheduled to release on March 29th. Images mirrored below.

I dont see a $60.00 Takara repaint. I see a lame $20.00 repaint on par with sharkticon megatron. Just not homaging an important enough character to be worthy of takara prices. But for 20 I would pop on it just for fun.

don't know if i will spring the 46 for it but if its on sale down the line, it may happen.

Looks awesome in bot mode, but nothing can save that beast mode. That would probably make for a sweet custom roadbuster head.

I do like the robot mode, quite a bit actually. The silver on the head of Dino mode is hideous though.

Both figures look really nice. The paint decos are sharp. I wonder if Takara thickened the plastic on Grimlock so his whole head doesn't light up?

that grimlock looks awesome. if only it was not such a cheep toy. i dont want to pay that much for it.

I don't see much difference between this FOC Thundercracker and the one we got in the Generations line. The paint job is a little better with the silver on the guns. Other than that, what is different?

The Grimlock is a pass for me. Not much more than a red Grimlock to me. If you are into repaints then it would be pretty cool. I am sometimes, but not for the price these will command.

I know. This isn't an e-HOBBY toy.

Unless you mean he's not with Takara at all anymore, which I wouldn't know either way.

He did write the Japanese Generations bios, though, which is why I assumed this toy's bio would be written by him. If not, then I still look forward to seeing the bio even if someone else wrote it.

A few subtle differences. Like, the Takara one has a metallic paint finish, richer paint colors, logos on the jet mode fin, black knees instead of gray, different paint apps on the guns, etc.

Nice colors on TC, but I don't like the mold enough to pay import prices.

I'd get the Grimmy for my kid, he likes red Grimlocks, but again, that isn't an import buy.

Now that I actually look at the source pages, it says that is a form Grimlock powered up into after absorbing the thermal energy of lava.

It also says which stores they are exclusive to:

Fireblast Grimlock - Bic Camera and Kojima stores

Thundercracker - Yodobashi Camera, Yamada Denki, and Best Denki stores

So does anyone know (or have a good idea) if BBTS/TFsource or others will offer these guys? Since I must have all things WFC/FOC, I will be getting these. The Takara TC looks great. The new Grimy is interesting. So he's a reference to an Animated Grimlock?
