We have some in hand images at the penultimate leader class Dinobot to complete the line up, Snarl. Snarl will be the only Dinobot released in the Studio Series line this year. The images below come form a Chefatron review which was removed.

Let us know what you think about the toy!

I'm curious if Sludge has come and gone? I hear of people already getting it but I've had a preorder at Gamestop since its listing that has still gone unfulfilled. I got him on a sale so I'd like to keep that order but I'm starting to get the feeling if it falls through I won't be getting the figure. lol

Cool gallery of the Dinobots!

Walmart finally started carrying the figure a few months ago and now it's just kinda sitting there on the shelves like Coronation Starscream did.

How does everybody feel about Snarl being the first one to have come with a Sword? Sludge and Slug only had guns in the cartoon so omitting the swords made sense and Snarl and Swoop only had Swords so I was suspected them to have them. Also just glad to see my favorite Dinobot done so well.

I'll be looking forward to this one. But I gotta say - I'm disappointed that the tail is so short, and that it appears to have no articulation. The tail is supposed to be his primary weapon, able to swing around and clobber enemies, or arch over his back to shoot laser blasts from the spikes. With the tail as pictured, poor Snarl would have to be practically sitting right on top of an opponent to have the tail anywhere near striking distance.

Image

The way it's configured, at least in these photos, makes the tail seem WAY too stubby. From a 3/4 angle, you can't see the tail at all. And the photos from the side, make it look like he's passing something uncomfortable after a meal.

Here's hoping these are just prototypes, and the finished product will make the tail larger. Sadly though, these early shots have proved to be fairly indicative of the final product. Mind you, the REST of him looks great. But given the tail is supposed to be THE primary feature? To have it look so diminished (and frankly weak) drags it down a notch or two.

That's not how this works. By the time these reviewers get them in-hand, regardless of provenance, this is going to be at minimum very close, it's a pipe dream.

Interesting that the tail structure and overall design are so closely modeled on the original toy, arguably sacrificing screen accuracy.

If so, that would be a disappointment. In this case going with 'G1 toy accuracy' vs. 'screen accuracy' produces a distinctly under-whelming result. Oh I'll get the figure, don't mistake. But that mini-tail is going to be something I'll have to wince my way around every time I see the alt mode.

Maybe some 3rd Party companies will make an upgrade kit to replace the tail with something a bit more robust...

The tail looks pretty accurate to me:

Between the screen and the toy, it's much closer to the toy. I'm sure that was necessary for transformation reasons, but that's still where we ended up. In deco and functionality, a big chunk of his back is supposed to be the tail based on the cartoon version.

I'm thinking of screen accuracy in terms of how he used his tail in the G1 episode "War of the Dinobots". Snarl clearly arched his tail above and over his back to shoot spikes. He also swung it around and swiped it with so much force that it knocked Grimlock down and left him groggy and immobile. Frankly, it always bugged me that the G1 toy looked like that wasn't accurate either. My hope was this update would have fixed that with a longer tail. But as I said - hopefully 3rd party companies will have an answer.

Heck even Slug's tail appears longer by comparison. How does that make any sense?

Sabrblade wrote:Hate to link to TFW, but they were able to get a gallery of in-hand images from this now-gone video.

Judging from this pics, is it me or do Snarl, Slug, and Sludge all look a smidge taller than Grimlock in robot mode?

Grmlock's head is just smaller than it should be.

Hilariously, because I never finished it, I paused it - I can still watch it.

At the risk of raising the ire of moderators, the guy gets stolen figures from the factory.

But seriously, it was in response to Cyber Bishop.

Also there is a middle man, an online shop that procures these figures and then sells them to the reviewers. We've newsed it several times, most notably with the last review we newsed from Prime vs Prime.

What's interesting here is that the video was nuked, was it because of the ludicrous timing? Revealing a figure that probably won't get officially revealed till summertime?

So Snarl gets a sword but the other guys don't? I know in the show/movie Snarl was the only one with a sword but still, fudge it a little so it doesn't stand out that much.

My God, did Hasbro actually pull a video down, did Optimus Prime turn the tide again? (Get it, the line from the movie? We're in the movie thread?)

Well, regardless, those "leaks" will never stop. And if they want to pay a fortune for these... samples... to be the early bird reviewers, so be it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I saw some of these popping on eBay and the bids they get are insane. I remember way back then an "early" DotM voyager Megatron being sold for hundreds of dollars.

Yeah, that tail... Didn't like it on the G1 figure (or the POTP) and I don't like it here. Otherwise, looks great. That group shot once again reinforces my view that Sludge should have been a Commander class or a tall leader. His dino mode is too small compared to the others and in robot mode he should be at least a head taller than Grimlock. My opinions only of course.
