			IDW Named Third-Largest Publisher
10-year-old publishing company reaches #3 in March based on Diamond sales figures
San Diego, CA (April 13, 2009) – Good things come in threes at IDW! Capping off a week of milestones, IDW is proud to enter the ranks of Diamond’s top three publishers for the first time in March. In addition to reaching third, IDW is also celebrating its tenth anniversary, and boasts five Eisner nominations, another new company record.
“This is a huge milestone for us, and the culmination of a decade of hard work by the many different people to have contributed to IDW over the years,” said Ted Adams, CEO of IDW. “We have a lot to be proud of as a company, and this is clearly a great beginning to our second decade.”
Throughout its history, IDW has strived to offer a wide array of comic books, graphic novels and classic books in every major entertainment genre. This broad appeal paid off in March, as several diverse titles helped IDW achieve huge unit sales.
Star Trek: Countdown, the official prequel to the much-anticipated motion picture, has consistently sold very well. As the movie release approaches, the Star Trek: Countdown trade paperback will be a much-read for Star Trek fans who want to fully understand the film. All four issues of Star Trek: Countdown are also available for download from iTunes.
IDW’s G.I. JOE books were also major sellers in March, with several different series bringing fans on new missions with their favorite JOEs. The continuing adventures of Joss Whedon’s fan-favorite vampire, Angel, was another lead seller for IDW in March, with multiple Angel storylines expanding on the universe left behind by the television show.
March was a great month of IDW’s many independent books, including the Eisner-nominated Locke & Key, The New York Times Best Selling Wormwood, and Groom Lake, a four-part tale of alien abductions and probings, conspiracies and secrets.
“IDW has always focused on producing quality comics and books, and it’s gratifying to see fans enjoying our books so much,” said IDW Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Chris Ryall. “There is definitely a lot more great things to come for the company and our readers.”

						Good for them!
They must have a pretty good business plan, a mix of well established franchises (Transformers, GI Joe, Doctor Who, Angel) and original series (Locke & Key ... that needs to be turned into a tv or movie series)
All they need is a couple of big name "super hero" type books to push them up that little bit more.

IDW have been hitting #3 all year in terms of sales.
With titles like Transformers, Star Trek, Angel and Locke and Key, it's no surprise they are the biggest of the "smaller" companies.
