Image of concept design Animated Dinobots released

Sean Galloway has released some images of his concept designs for the Transformers: Animated Dinobots over on his blog.

The images display Sean's concept design for the characters Sludge, Swoop (twice), Grimlock, and Snarl.

Sean states "My goal was to make them feel as if they had some Japanese aspects in them. For Sludge, I wasn't sure if 4 arms would work on him, but I figured what the heck, ya know? For Swoop I wanted to make him more ninja-esque.... Grimlock more Samurai-esque, and finally Snarl as more of a bruiser or a grunt from the bunch."

You can check out the concept art below, or head on over to Sean's blog by clicking here

I like the designs they ended up with, but those two Swoop concepts are pretty sweet

Not really animated style are they?
I mean I like the designs, hell that Grimlock's kick ass, but other than the second Swoop (at a push) they don't really scream TF: Animated.
Four-armed Dino sounds fun though :D

I actually think they look really cool, too bad they didn't use them. I haven't exactly seen the actual designs though. Since I collect Grimlocks, I'll probably pick him up if the figure looks nice.

Okay, so I'm confused. Were there originally supposed to be four Dinobots in Animated or was he just doing Snarl/Sludge for fun? :-?

Yes, there are only three Dinobots: Grimlock, swoop, and Snarl (not "Slag"). Sludge must've been an early idea that was dropped.

Did they lose the rights to the name or something?

Even if that's the case, if it looks like a robotic triceratops, is colored red/grey/gold, and transforms into a robot, it's gonna be known as Slag to me  .

They look pretty cool. I especially like Grimlock. He looks like a dragon or something. I think that would be cool if Grimlock was a dragon, and the other Dinobots could be other kinds of dragons or mythical creatures.

Those do not really scream Dinobot to me, but they are cool designs.

They remind me more of stylized Horde troopers (you know Hordak's guys), and certainly they remind me of Full Metal Alchemist.

hmm... why is a red triceratops dinobot not being named slag? Well they do have snarl on a number of toys now so i could see them not having the rights to slag, but... duke's right Slag is slaggin Slag not slaggin Snarl :P

I'm thinking DraGobots, or maybe Ryutron and the Shenlongicons ;;)

Side note: I thought BW Dinobot (or his clone) should have been named Rapticon. Doesn't make since for a Predacon to be named after the team of Autobots that kicked there tail pipes in every time they meet. Divebomb had it the other way around so it was fine, but with the G1 members so revered in BW lore, could it have been a name selected out of respect for Grimlock's team? Or just to keep copy rights?

He couldn't have been called that because the name was not made untill years after Beast Wars ended.
