Explore the Dinobots like never before! Three stories chronicling the intense violence and redemption that have shaped the Transformers' most famous Autobot squad. It's a rollercoaster of death and absolution, drenched in atmosphere and action.
John Barber and Livio Ramondelli craft three stories focused on the Dinobots--a group of dinosaur-mode Autobots with a dark history and many sins to atone for. These stories' dark tone, intense plot, and epic cinematic scope explore the Dinobot's powerful dynamic and give these characters a chance to escape the cycle of violence that fuels their missions on Cybertron and beyond!
First, in Punishment, Optimus Prime and Windblade team up to stop a killer, but do they really want to, when all the victims are Decepticons? Then, in the title story, the Dinobots accept a dangerous mission into the Cybertronian wilds, but they get more than they bargained for, and are forced to reassess their beliefs in the process. Finally, in Salvation, the Dinobots are reviled for the things they've done. So when their greatest threat, Trypticon, appears, how much will they sacrifice for a world that hates them?
Collects The Transformers: Punishment,The Transformers: Redemption, and The Transformers: Salvation.

How did you guys like these stories (for someone who loves Dinobots)?
I'd explain why I need to know, but my thought process is kind of scattered, and will be until I know how good this series is

If you love Dinobots, you need to read the following books in this exact order:
Megatron Origin #1-4
Spotlight: Shockwave #1
Spotlight: Grimlock #14
Maximum Dinobots #1-5
Robots in Disguise #8-14
Punishment #1
Redemption #1
Revolution: More Than Meets the Eye #1
Salvation #1
It makes for a great story.

A few things to be ok with ahead of time:
If none of that bothers you, dive in and enjoy

These three are good to great for me. The middle chapter, Redemption, is a tribute to Mad Max and while effective, I think it could've been better if it walked a step or two back in that inspiration. Still good to me, just not great. Punishment and Salvation were real good.MagicDeath wrote:How did you guys like these stories (for someone who loves Dinobots)?

A few things to be ok with ahead of time:
- Livio Ramondelli. Some fans seem to really dislike his work, I think they just think they're not allowed to change their minds which were made up during Chaos
- IDW's Dinobots are not the G1 cartoon Dinobots, they're closer to Marvel G1. Snarl and Sludge are pretty close but Slag is more competent and Swoop is much different.
- Grimlock is not in these books. There's a good reason for this. I think they're saving him for some issues of Lost Light set to hit late this year/early next year.
If none of that bothers you, dive in and enjoy

i always look somewhat whistfully at these stories as theyre clearly the direction barber was gonna go in in relation to his storys on cybertron for his "Second season" and the ramifications of a post war society.
sandstorms in particular stands out in that front.
then Hasbro came in and did a G1 marvel on them demanding the spotlight on characters he woudnt touch with a tenfoot barge pole and the "event" nonsense thats ruined the books IMO. i mean he had a lovely intrigueing way to introduce combiners all set up that got trashed for the enigma of combination mcguffin.
it IS weird seeing a series of books on the dino's with no grimlock but TBH the big grim is like wolverine. he over shadows eveyone else when hes in a story so i thought it was great to see the focus on slag sludge and co. if anything i think they need to do MORE stuff as i dont think snarl and sludge have got half the love they deserve. snarl for instance would be VERY close to where sandstorm was in punishment.
"peace" should be a really rough thing for these lads and it was nice to see that angle touched on.

You forgot Monstrosity. I've read all those except for Spotlight: Grimlock and Punishment onward. Which means I can read them again in that order
In response to WJ: I have read some stuff, so I know about the IDW Dinobots. I think I'll get this outside of the main collection series if there are any extras. I actually have most of the latest collection due to starting IDW on Dark Cybertron (Bad idea; scared me away for a few years). Because I'll be passing up on that one and we still don't know what collections 8+ will be, I might just change my methods and buy this.
Overall, I'm not sure why you would want to know most of this, but writing helps me process.
Also, does poor Snarl still get skipped out on characterization?

I still haven't found anyone selling Salvation. It's strange, it's like it didn't exist when it got released.

Postage from America would make it far more expensive than I'm willing to pay. So no, I haven't.

If I hadn't preordered it through my local shop I wouldn't own a copy either. They didn't order even one extra for the shelf.

You'll remember the series of one-shots that John Barber and Livio Ramondelli created for IDW Publishing's Transformers comics series, focusing on the Dinobots team (minus Grimlock) and their difficulties with adapting to the new life after the war, and the arrival of Strafe, the enmities with Sandstorm, and a touch of Starscream machination - if you missed the three single issues, Punishment, Redemption, Salvation, they have now been collected into a trade paperback for ease of reading! Check out a synopsis and preview below.
