New differences between US and EU packaging

Posted by Dead Metal May 1, 2012 at 2:15pm CDT 34,228 views
The packaging of the European releases have always had differences to that of the Us releases mostly just the lack of a bio in favour of a sentence or two in different European languages, now however the differences is a little larger.
Thanks to seibertron.com member JelZe GoldRabbit we have a nice comparison between the US and European packaging of the Transformers Prime line. The difference is a slightly different design and well, the size of the card:

This might be part of Hasbro's new attempt at being more environmentally friendly or it might be another cost saving method, which the European packaging always was. Furthermore Transformers Prime marks the first time that Russian is put on the packaging bringing the language count to a whooping 13 languages!

This is just a cost saving thing, European packaging has always been about saving money, that and making more money than in the US.

I remember the old German bios on the boxes from the old days, I kinda miss those days.

I'd much rather see them shrink the card, fold it into a small box, just big enough to contain the bubble insert and put a hanging hook on it. They'd cut down on paper and plastic, plus collectors would be happier. Much easier to save the boxes, just fold 'em down.

I'd be most happy with a packaging that is resealable... either a box, or a Japan style card. (where you can cut the tape and slide the card out.)

It's also really nice when they can stack neatly... and stand up by themselves for display. :-?

Sorry guys, my memory is faulty. The Canadian cards are the same size as the US ones but they're tri-lingual with a single line of a bio on the back in each language. I thought they were the smaller ones because I remember how surprised I was the first time I saw them in the store. I guess they're smaller than previous lines already, but still not as small as the EU cards.

That's ok, thanks for the heads up :)

Still pretty odd that only Europe has the smaller card.

Yes! I would love the japan styled card, where i can throw away the bubble but save the card without damaging it.

Wow, I didn't even think about that notion. Yeah, that's a great option, too. Toss the plastic and walk away with a pristine card.
