New Galleries: Masterpiece MP-22 Ultra Magnus with Spike and Daniel Witwicky

Last time, Seibertron.com brought you Masterpiece Bumblebee. But can you deal with Takara Tomy's next Transformers Masterpiece figure, MP-22 Ultra Magnus? The leader of the Autobots (albeit briefly) comes with two human sidekicks Daniel and Spike Witwicky, the cab can be detached from the trailer and is pretty much identical to MP-10 Optimus Prime's, the trailer is compatible with all Masterpiece cars released so far, and even most of their G1 predecessors! Also included are storable weapons and an additional face for expression changes, also capable of being stored in the figure itself, and a matrix chamber in its chest. Head below for a sample of the extensive gallery for this addition to the collector's line of transforming robots, and click on any of the images to view the full works.

Hi Ryan, nice MP Magnus Gallery. Do you think you could you add a pic of MP02 in cab mode with MP22, G1, WST & CHUG cabs?

One acknowledges both (by using MP-10's Spike and using Wheelie and MP Rodimus), another says it's Daniel, yet another sticks with Spike... 8-} I did spot that the more observant ones seem to favor Daniel however.

This all leads me back to my original theory that I think it's odd that Takara hasn't used imagery from the Animated movie in a while (at least not that I've noticed, someone please correct me if I'm wrong). It'll be interesting to see what cartoon images they use for Ultra Magnus since the "mouth opened" face should be the Matrix holding pose from the Animated Movie. If they refrain from using imagery from the Animated movie, I'm going to stick with my theory that for some reason they can't use imagery from that source currently (which I'm assuming ties back to Paramount absurdly preventing its release here in the US).

To continue that something is odd with Takara's lack of usage of the animated Transformers movie, the instructions for Ultra Magnus do not show an image of Ultra Magnus holding the matrix from the animated movie. The one image it does use from the animated movie has a Hasbro copyright over it. Something is definitely up with it!

So maybe Hasbro owns the rights to the Animated movie but is in agreement with Paramount that it won't be released at this time to avoid market confusion? Or maybe Hasbro owns the rights to still images from the Animated movie but Takara doesn't? Something is definitely odd.

I also don't understand why it says MP-10 on that page. Another oddity!

I thought the "History of Ultra Magnus" page was a little lacking.

Image

Titanium Ultra Magnus, the 1st all-in-one transforming Magnus, should have been included on this page, but I wonder if it was neglected because Takara never got the Titanium series. Also, Beast Hunters Ultra Magnus should have been on there and Universe Ultra Magnus. It must have to do with which ones Japan got because they didn't get any of those. Hm, Classics and/or United Ultra Magnus should have been on there as well ... and Japan definitely got Takara Ultra Magnus.

It probably says that Magnus can store the MP-10 Matrix.

Also, that image of Magnus with the Matrix is from TFtM.

Right ... please read my post on the prior page about this. It's the only image that says (c) Hasbro on it which adds more to my theory about something being up with Takara's usage of imagery from the movie as well as the future of the movie worldwide.

That would be a neat picture but I've got to get to the next gallery. Next stops: Legends Jetfire followed by Masterpiece MP-11SW Skywarp.

They only did Japanese releases. United Magnus was a Hong Kong/Asia exclusive - surely available in Japan to some extent, but not a "Japanese" release.

It seems odd to me ... because I'm pretty sure they've done Action Masters or other figures that didn't see Japanese releases. I wonder why the change?

Yep ... Grimlock is a great example of this, of course without the non-Takara contributions there wouldn't have been much to show for the Grimlock line-up

Ah. Yes. The movie hasn't been released since 2006, so you've probably got something there.

It's been released elsewhere in the world (and on Blu-Ray as well) such as the UK (Metrodome) and Australia (Madman Entertainment) but I don't think it's been released since 2010. In the time since, it seems like there has been an absence of usage of imagery from the movie in addition to a lack of release. We've had a lengthy discussion about this in previous pages of this topic.

Really wish Exosuit Daniel was smaller, I don't understand why they went out of scale with him. If they shrunk him down to the size of Frenzy and Rumble he would have been perfect. It's not like he has any joints that wouldn't work if they were smaller.

I'm actually a little surprised to see God Magnus on there since he was a different character and only "Ultra Magnus" in the English version, yet the Grimlock page you also posted a pic of lacks RID Grimlock/CR Build Hurricane.

Hasbro's Energon Ultra Magnus, Universe "Battle in a Box" Ultra Magnus, BotCon 2012 SG Ultra Magnus, and TFS Ultra Mammoth are also absent (though, I could understand Takara not including the latter two).

Seibertron.com is proud to present our newest gallery: Masterpiece MP-11SW Skywarp

Skywarp is based off of the MP-11 mold, which permanently replaced the MP-03 mold, which was used the last time Skywarp received a Masterpiece release, back when Wal*Mart carried them. You can see the differences between the MP-03 and MP-11 molds by clicking this link here, and then check out the full gallery of Takara-Tomy's newest high quality release by clicking on any of the mirrored images below.
