Official Hasbro Statement Clarifying Comments about TRANSFORMERS games by Activision

Posted by william-james88 Aug 2, 2023 at 1:08am CDT 94,476 views
Hasbro has been quick to reach out to us personally (and to other news sites) to inform us that the news going around about the Activision Transformers games being lost is false.

Here is the official statement on behalf of Hasbro (below).

“To clarify, comments that suggest TRANSFORMERS games have been lost were made in error. We apologize to Activision and regret any confusion; they’ve been great partners, and we look forward to future opportunities to work together.”

More Bots. More News. More Awesome.

Probably, but I think this is more about sharing inside info and using negative language when referring to a company they want to work with (the whole companies eating companies thing). This sounds less like a correction and more like a public apology.

Who originally said it?

Evan, the designer who works on the legacy core class figures.

Yes, more an apology than a correction

Since it's Twitter I don't know if the intended tone is one of annoyance or just matter-of-fact, but the CCO at Activision got wind of the comments and posted this, which appears to have prompted the Hasbro apology: https://twitter.com/lulumeservey/status ... xhlNQ&s=19

Megatron and cliffjumper are in stock at Pulse, I ordered mine and they should be here soon.

As for GE figures: do proper Dinobots. But please do the live action dinobots first, let those get finished before we start GE ones, which I really want too

Both of the original Activision WFC and FOC games deserves at the very least a Steam port.

I'm sure that many would buy them even if they already have the originals on PS3 or X-360.
Myself included.

I hope Evan doesn't get in too much trouble, he's a designer, not a PR guy. And he's always come across as genuine. If anything, it's Activision's fault for not giving them the assets... I wouldn't be surprised if what Evan said was something someone from Activision told the design team so they'd stop asking for the 3D files, and he just parroted it(which I always find funny the Hasbro team calls "CAD", as they'd never call it that in the context of videogames, probably neither they would be in movies).

I was wondering about this whole thing myself. Software developers don't generally store their code on "hard drives" that get lost. They use version control tools that store the entire project somewhere remotely. You can't just "lose" that. It's pretty hard to just lose an entire software project.

Maybe, but he has a continuing streak of lack of brand knowledge on which ever brand they assign him to, definitely needs to be out of the lime light when it comes to talking about products.

I actually think he's one of the most interesting designers to hear talking about the toys.

Oddly enough, I skipped that whole era. Went from PS 2 to begrudgingly getting a PS4 when a few import games came out and I couldn't resist.

My son really wanted to play those games though, so he bought himself a PS3 I think he has a total of 5 games including WFC & FOC.

I second this. I hope he doesn't get in trouble, and I hope they don't tell him to say less. I agree Rtron, someone must have told him that from Activision.

Hasbro pulse thing way back:
Zoids - he said Zoids Wild toys was generation 2 of zoids...erm...90s and chrome was an actual thing, an actual thing called Zoids 2.

Fair enough if he is a designer and doesnt have to do much with toys that another company has designed but at least hype them right and respect the long history.

Most recent with the transformers comment on a super nintendo transformer released in Japan...which semantics aside would have been a super famicom transformer but it would have actually had to exist.

With transformers in the past some of the paint choices and explanations of why a character had to be this or that, cant remember the specifics. I know I havent watched that many pulse things or design talks with him in it but I'm pretty sure in near all of them there has been a lack of knowledge with the subject matter.

I believe it's entirely possible that designers like Evan may not even be exposed enough to the brand itself in their positions. They may be told "design this" and that's what they do - they design it. They probably get reference images from other media their designs are supposed to represent, but that doesn't necessarily mean they know the story behind the media or the characters they're working on. That job probably belongs to someone else on the team who specializes in that - you probably wouldn't want that guy actually designing Transformers figures like asking the designers and engineers to write stories

This comes from my experience as a professional number-cruncher and researcher who feeds the results of my work to other people who can use it better than I can for what the organization does.

I don't have any PR experience, and I don't mind that. That can be pretty scary, and there's also a department in my organization that specializes in that so that no one else has to.

This applies to every career, skill, and talent: If it were so easy, everyone would be doing it!

I dunno about Evan being all that unfamiliar with the brand, since some of the Hasbro Pulse livestreams have shown him to have a vast personal collection of figures from all across the past 39 years of the brand. One video even saw him hold up to the camera his copy of RID 2001 Landfill fully combined, and saying he'd like to see a new modern version of it made someday.

Seriously, he once literally had a shelf of his own filled to the brim with various old Optimus toys behind him while showing Ironhide.

And as Battlemaster says, PR is a pretty scary job and the transformers "lore" is super extense, the guy is a designer, which is an extensive enough discipline, if he's a fan on top of that and is even competent in front of a camera, then that's a nice bonus.

Ok yes, this rings a bell. And now I remember that in that same interview he said he chose Nacelle to complete a trio, which is an odd thing to say if one is nitpicky.

Landfill ain't exactly something an ignoramus would know about.
