Paramount CEO Brad Grey on Transformers: Bumblebee Spin-Off

Posted by Va'al Feb 16, 2016 at 1:56pm CST 57,777 views
After the confirmation during Toy Fair 2016, from Paramount and Hasbro directly, that the sixth instalment in the movie series for the big screen Transformers will focus on Bumblebee alone, today we receive an update via The Hollywood Reporter in which gives CEO Brad Grey a little more detail on the 2018 feature. Read more here and below!

Paramount will sandwich a Bumblebee movie between its next two Transformers pics. The three films will roll out in successive summers beginning with a Michael Bay-helmed Transformers 5 on June 23, 2017, followed by the Bumblebee spinoff June 8, 2018. Another stand-alone will arrive June 28, 2019.

The studio announced the dates for the three movies Feb. 12 but was vague about whether or not the trio would include a spinoff, simply calling the films Transformers 5, 6 and 7.

“There are characters in the Transformers universe that can be and should be made into their own movies,” Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Brad Grey told The Hollywood Reporter. “We will make the first movie with Michael and go right into a Bumblebee movie, which will be at a lower cost.”

Considering the Transformers franchise has spawned $3.8 billion in worldwide box office since 2007, it should come as no surprise that Paramount is looking to pick up the pace on its robot juggernaut.

I honestly don't care if the following movies are awful or anything I'll see them just to say I did.

I grew up with Transformers Cybertron and the movies so I kinda have an obligation to see the movies.

Maybe the spin-offs will be different teams and actually be watchable.

I love the movie TFs and can't wait for more of them and the associated toylines. Is the only screen incarnation of TF I've ever really enjoyed. :)

Hm. If they really want to cut the budget they coooould do it stop-motion with Hasbro toys like folks on youtube have done. Ok probably too low budget but at least then the CGI models and the toys would look identical. :P

The way I see it is it is Transformers. Is it the best Transformers has to offer? No. Is it better than a bunch of other fictions? Yes, because it is still Transformers. Therefore, be happy to be able to enjoy more Transformers. :BOT: :CON:

Honestly, I can think of a ton of other characters that I would rather see a solo adventure about aside from BB. But I understand Hasbro & Paramount have done a good job of either killing off other characters that would have had good solo adventures, or not introducing others.

I just wonder if he will have his voice back. Sorry... I never bought the line in RoTF (during sam's "going away to college" speech that B was "faking it" for sympathy.)

It was just poor writing, that somehow spilled over to the additional sequels.

Questions:
Who's the star of the movie going to be?

Is this going to be a silent film or a G1 Wreck-Gar-like movie?

Will he be in car mode for half the film?

Having a bumblebee spin off will be absolutely ridiculous, the last thing I wanna see is bumblebee making funny noises to communicate to who ever.

When has building a movie around a guy who doesn't talk been a good idea, at any time between the death of Charlie Chaplin and now?

Great idea! That's exactly what they need to move the Transformers franchise forward again!

With store shelved being backed up with random characters, adding more of a character who can't speak is sure to help out!

WHAT'S THIS? A FRANCHISE WITH AN OVERABUNDANCE OF BEES? MY BRIEFCASE FULL OF BEES OUGHT TO PUT A STOP TO THAT!

Bleh. I guess I shouldn't complain. I don't plan on seeing any more bay-style movies anyway. Still, now I have more yellow crap clogging up store shelves to look forward to.

Yay for new movies, I've always liked them. :D But I think a Bumblebee movie is more than we need, especially since he's already the most popular character in the franchise right now.
Unless they can find a way to make a prequel, on Cybertron before he lost his voice... Adapt bumblebee at tiger pax or something. Then we could get a chance to see some established characters who've since been killed again.

I'm actually anticipating the Bee movie being a prequel and showing him young and rambunctuous, and then the war and him losing his voice, and ultimately him being sent to Earth ahead of the rest :BOT:

Guys a spinoff doesn't mean it will take place at the same time as Transformers 5.

For all we know it's a prequel
