Is it just me, but do these prices seem pretty terrible? I remember the older re-issues were fairly tame at about $30...

Last time Perceptor was reissued, he was running at 34.99 at TRU. This set includes Blaster and cassettes in addition. Seems a bit, but not entirely unreasonable.

Wasn't soundwave released with his cassettes once for a more reasonable price?

Soundwave is much smaller than Blaster. This Blaster is actually the reissued set from 2010 which was an SDCC exclusive, I dont know how much it cost then, but it was going for 140$ onTFsource before it was sold out.
And plus, you get new exclusive accessories you never had before. Plus inflation from 6 years ago (remember how much a deluxe cost back then?). This sounds very fair to me.

Last I recall Soundwave being reissued was way back in 2007... and I think he only came with Laserbeak & Ravage:

At the time he was 29.99.
I think there was an SDCC version with more cassettes, but that definitely went for more.

Well, fenrir's in Singapore or thereabouts (right?). These Platinum editions have been hitting there earlier than the US.

Ah, right, I forgot he was in singapore, yeah makes sense.
And Hellscream, you can always wait for a discount. I paid my predaking only 100$ and I am waiting for the coneheads to go lower too.

That price is easier to swallow. The hard pill is the Insecticons for $79.99 at K-Mart.
A couple of weeks ago,I was over on a side of town I'm not in that often, and remembered there was K-Mart there. I stopped to see if they had the Insecticons. Indeedy do they did. At least 2 full cases worth. The pegs were baron, although I did snag CW Rod and Warp (suprise!
), but there were plenty of bugs.
I predict these well simmer until Xmas super sales. I bet they will be very easy to snag at a more palatable price.
P.S. K-Mart is a dump.

Good thing is Target is not shy about clearing things out at reduced prices. This set is timed right so that if it sits it will be discounted by the end of September to get ready for the holiday shipments.

Walmart.ca (only available to canada). Well look, we all have choices to make. I chose to not get CW Megs (any of them), none of the none G1 CW Voyager torsos, none of wave 4 and no MPs. Instead I will try to get the conehead and perceptor/blaster reissue, the Legends Ladies (Blackarachnia and Slipstream), Legends Arcee and TAV 21. I buy whatever makes me happiest with the limited income I have. Choose what makes you happiest. I personally want to experience G1, and these prices are as fair as any other (way more fair than 20$ for a deluxe) but it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Oh, I know all about that, its the reason why I basically haven't bought tf's in recent years, I was saving up for the inevitable line that I would go semi-completionist on. But there is something to wanting that little sliver of history in your collection, ya know?

Aside from the "slides" and the extra autobot decal on Perceptor's chrome "mirror", I'd say you have better luck getting the TFC versions cheaply. Then hunt for the Encore cassettes.
If the price is very wide in difference then the current SRP will be just fine. Except you still don't get Rewind.

Oh, I totally get that. So much so that I am favoring that sliver of history over other stuff. I find it so cool that we can still obtain nice brand new toys of that era. Too bad it isnt at the price of the Ninja Turtle rereleases though (just got 1988 Shredder brand new for 7$).

At least the price for this set is way much better than the price for the Insecticons. However, I'm not that surprised about the price since everything you buy will get more expensive as time goes by.

I like em. $99 is about right for two reissues of g1 with cassetes. I like that RID Grimlock too. It's a step in the right direction.
