Reveal of Upcoming Takara Legends Toys to be Released in September: Sharkticon, Hot Rod, Kup

Posted by william-james88 Apr 5, 2017 at 9:10am CDT 19,835 views
Fellow Seibertronian Fenrir has informed us of listings of the other Transformers Legends toys to be released in September, along with Trypticon. These have appeared on facebook on both the Loopaza Megastore page and the Planet Iacon page.

For those who cannot read Japanese this translates to:

LG44 Sharkicon & Sweeps (Titans Return Gnaw with an additional Titan master Head)
LG45 Target Master Hot Rodimus (Titans Return Hot Rod with a Titan Master vehicle/weapon)
LG46 Target Master Kup (Titans Return Kup with a Titan Master vehicle/weapon)

The listing also shows that the three most popular Movie the Best toys will get a rerelease: Voyager Optimus Prime, Megatron and Soundwave.

The prices mentionned are incredibly low though, so this may be the cost to sellers rather than the actual MSRP.

They're including... a Scourge head? Unless we should take this as a hint at a Titan Master in Wave 6 or the boxsets, that seems like an odd choice.

But yeah, no doubt this was gonna happen. Fun to see they're using the vehicles to try and make Hot Rod and Kup Targetmasters.

Think of it as a means to army-build both the Sharkticons and the Sweeps at the same time. A Legends class army-builder packed with a Headmaster army-builder.

Still an odd choice since your still left without sweep bodies. The fiction so far showed us that sweeps can have different faces rather than the same face with different bodies.

They do?

It looks like the same face to me, just with different expressions due to their being in different moods/personalities.

Eh, I think it'd be cool to just have a little army of Sweep heads marching about. It'd certainly make Trypticon look a bit more inhabited.

That's really strange. All this time the Hasbro Legends class guys have been packed with a Hasbro Titan Master class figure, so why suddenly repack a head they've used before? Would make more sense to use one of the many Decepticon Titan Masters they haven't used yet like Fangry for Wilder who has already been in the Legends comics?

Also interesting that they're giving Kup and Hot Rod partner vehicles when they didn't Blurr and Scourge. It's not like those guys where Targetmasters in Japan (until 2004).

As Sabre posted in the comic above, the sweeps dont have Scourge's head so this head would be different. It would be one of the titanmasters with a visor, replicating the face of the sweeps.

Sweep 1 in that comic is Scourge (Hasbro's Titan Master Fracas). That's the point that Sabr was making, they're basically going to repackage Scourge's head with Gnaw for double army building without having to buy Scourge seven times. Still seems like a strange choice to me, it caters to a very small number of fans that care about army building (and army building a head of all things) and gives a duplicate head to people that already have Scourge.

Well, if they didn't pack the Sharkticon with a Sweep head, then they'd pack it with a head that no one would want to army-build. Anyone in Japan who'd want to create their own little army of Sharkticons would also end up with an army of some other dude who's only supposed to be one guy. In a perfect world, the Sharkticon (and all of the TR Legends class molds) ought to have been sold individually, without a packed-in Headmaster. But I guess Takara simply didn't want to sell Gen Legends class toys individually in the TF: Legends line, as both Swerve and Tailgate ended up being released as a two-pack with each other, while all the other Gen Legends class figures from before TR (but released after Takara's Generations line ended) ended up being relegated to the Adventure line. The big question we should be asking is why Takara simply won't release Gen Legends class molds in the TF: Legends line individually without pairing them up with either a second Gen Legends mold or a Titan Master.

I'm also wondering why they don't just do like you said and put Gnaw in the Adventure line. Or, heck, just straight-up make a pack of 2 or 3 Sharkticons!

Definitely :D Part of me also thinks there's a possibility they'll be a 4-pack, but probably not. Wonder how the pack-in comics'll explain their diminished size...

One caveat about Targetmaster Rodimus and Kup: they do not come with any extra accessories, if we are to believe the prices are final. I did some price comparing and the (unusually) low price of 2,600 Yen is closer to the price for Scourge and Blurr (3,200 Yen), who did not come with an extra vehicle/weapon. The original Headmaster who did come with them were 4,000 Yen, nowhere near the 2,600 Yen price.

Literally "jumping the gun" a bit there

The "Targetmaster" name probably relates to their Transformers Collection reissues, one that Blurr was never released in. If that's the case, we could potentially see Firebolt and Recoil making an appearance.

Thats because those are the prices a seller sees when they buy from Takara. Thats where these leaks come from (and why we are seeing them before anything else). What you see is the cost price, not the MSRP. We can confirm that with the prices of the MB toys which are no where near the price anyone has ever listed them for. Since they are reissues then that proves that none of these prices are MSRPs and they line up with being close to 50% of the MSRP instead, which is the industry average for the markup.

Huh, never knew. I retract my statement then. The markups do vary: for Sharktron & Sweeps it's roughly 40%, while a 50% markups brings the other two closer to the standard price for the Deluxe + vehicle/weapon sets.

No worries. But just curious, the prices for the MB figures didnt tip you off about anything?

I have little doubt they will; though like previously it seems a lot of TR molds'll get mixed in with POTP molds - much like T30 molds got mixed in with CW molds. Legends is fun!
