TV Shows On DVD.com reports that Rhino has lost the licences of "Sunbow Produced" 80's cartoon shows like GI Joe, Jem and of course the original series of The Transformers. Unlike the other cartoon shows mentioned, all seasons of the Transformers has been released on DVD by Rhino in the past.

According to the report, e-mails from Rhino has stated the following:

"Rhino's deal with Sunbow, the licensor of Transformers, GI Joe and Jem, has expired. Sony Music has acquired them and will reissue these titles at some point".

This can be confirmed since all the reference to the original series of the Transformers have been removed from their site's Transformers page and their product list.

This of course has no hold on the Main Frame produced Beast Wars and Beast Machines and Aeon inc produced Armada series, to which Rhino still holds the rights. But it could explain why Rhino has been reluctant to release either Beast Machines on DVD and the second half of the Armada season box.
