Now, isn't the producer the guy who hires the director? Shouldn't Bay be kissing his ass or something? Ignoring every suggestion he has generally is not good job security...

I think the Producer is just the guy who's responseble for scrathing the money together so the Director can make his movie. Atleast that's what I've been told, so pleas don't flame me!

Yeah the producers basically get people pschyed for the movie and get them to pony up millions of dollars for budgets, thats why some smaller films you see them with 10 different producers. Other than that alot of times I don't think they have any real creative input.

yeah producers are the instigators and cheerleaders but each is different and each have different levels of influence and power - spielberg was a producers on this and more than a bit of input i'm sure

Correct, it's the Executive Producers job to hire the Director. Meaning Speilberg, Not Dasanto.
