As a beast-baby, this will be the first Masterpiece figure I've ever purchased...hot dang, it's gonna be worth it, I hope....How much is this thing gonna cost?

I'm just curious if will this be in scale with the current MPs. Because if it does then this will be tiny!

Everyone may hate me, but I'm not feeling this one. While it's a great effort & a nice robot mode, I feel it cheapens the whole Masterpiece line with an alt mode that is far from convincing. The Masterpiece line should be the be-all, end-all definitive figure for a character... While this figure may fill that role for now, it will clearly need re-engineering in the future to better hide the robot bits in beast mode. Because of this, I feel it really doesn't qualify as a Masterpiece.

Hell YEAH! This one look amazing! So, that mean we will FINALLY have a MP Megatron.... The BW T-Rex one, that is.

Yaniger-swipe and Gold-bee don't count then?

EDIT: This is actually making me seriously rethink the decision to put the LG-02 Optimus Primal on my Christmas list.

I'm not sure the family would pick it up for me, but if this looks amazing and it's a sensible price, it might just end up being the fastest a brand new figure has ever been retired from my shelf.

You are not alone, I am not feeling it either.

At least 100$, assuming it is the same size class as Ironhide/Shockwave or bigger .

Yeah, the engineering seems more like an update than really a Masterpiece figure. I dont see how RHinox is generations and this is an MP, aside from size. This will really be a wait and see for me. That beast mode does not look as good as when they first showed it:

I'm not convinced until I see some images from the toy itself. [-(

Meh not a huge fan of beast wars so this is an easy pass. I agree with Will that this looks more like a generations figure than a masterpiece.

They could have hidden the elbow hinges in ape mode better, but as for robot mode accuracy, i think he's pretty much perfect

Image

I'd also say that the already released MP figures aren't perfectly accurate eiter, taking liberties in bot mode, alt mode, or both.
In that sense, Primal is just as much a Masterpiece as the other ones.

This all gets to the question of 'what's an MP?' or 'what characteristics define an MP?' or even 'what's the platonic ideal?'

For characters with licensed vehicle modes, the answer is easier - slavish vehicle modes, compromises in bot mode where needed. With Optimus Primal, the compromise is in the alt mode... which is a weird inversion of our normal expectations when it comes to Masterpiece figures.

Either way, I think it's way too early to pass judgment on this one.

Early indeed.

First reaction is, this cartoon accuracy rampage is driving me nuts. The ape mode looks bad. He's an animal, not a computer model from 1994. He should have fur! Not this smooth CG rendered finish.

The bot mode looks great though! I will anxiously await more information.

I can hop onboard the Primal bandwagon. Nice looking render. Cannot wait to see some more stuff down the line! :BOT:

He looks pretty good for an early render. The one shown at the toy show was just a statue not an actual working figure. Wonder how they will scale him? If he is kept in scale with the rest of the masterpiece figures then he would be about the same size as the LG-02 Primal figure. If thats the case then why make him in masterpiece as that, Gen. Rattrap and Rhinox are already fairly in scale with masterpiece. When Primal took Prime's spark and held it, he was about shin height to him.

For an early render this doesn't look too bad. The gorilla does look a bit awkward, the feet were the first thing I noticed as off, but most of the Beast Wars toys had robot kibble showing somewhere so it doesn't bother me that much. This could very well be my first Masterpiece figure, I kind of hope it's around the same height as a Generations Voyager (something close to Combiner Wars Optimus/Motormaster, a little bit taller than Masterpiece Bumblebee would be perfect), but I get the feeling it will be closer in height to Masterpiece Prowl or Wheeljack.

Why? That's what's driven me away from all of his releases thus far, is that the beast mode head never looked like the character I grew up loving... the MP line has always been about cartoon accuracy where needed, and where else would it be needed than in giving him his iconic cartoon head model. If you want a 'realistic' o/p get any of the standard releases, as they probably fit the bill better [-(

It looks like they're trying to make this toy's Beast Mode able to both realistically bend over on all fours (as Primal did in the show when he wanted to walk or run) and unrealistically stand upright (as Primal also did in the show went he was just standing around).

Just like they did for rattrap; which is fair, as that's how they spent the bulk of their time in beast mode; imagine if they tried to do terrorsaur, what an engineering mess he would yield
