TRANSFORMERS MOSAIC: "Temptation"

Never liked Hot Rod. Still don't like Hot Rod...

But this Mosaic is just so faceted; on the one hand, Hot Rod comes across being very noble, not wanting the power of the Matrix to avenge his comrades, but we see, on the other hand, that it's a very flawed nobility. It fits perfectly with his characterization as being over-confident, but manages to twist it so that's not merely one-sided.

Well done! I hate Hot Rod less now!

I had the thought also that this Mosaic carries a bit of a One Ring vibe, but it does also get at the one extremely significant thing that Hot Rod and Optimus had in common both in G1 and in the IDW-verse: neither one desires the power in his hands. So far, IDW has done a good job at re-imagining characters in interesting ways, and this surely participates in that effort.

I haven't read the Hot Rod Spotlight yet(hopefully I'll get both spotlight books early next year), so I guess the story's over my head.
