Thanks for the review! It's beaten into us to death by Hasbro & fans alike that class is a price point now. It's something's I've come to accept after a few false start by Hasbro (Shockwave, Astrotrain, ER Prime) that hurts their case but there are also a few that made it (Hot Rod, Megatron here).
Some people argue this is a bad Megatron for its poor alt-modes. I can see their point but in-hand I don't quite agree. It still IS kind of the worse tank mode since CW, I don't like that triangular hollowness in the tank turret and its obvious "folded bot arms" look, but the tabbing is solid and that made it a fun tank to play with. I also like the jet's odd look that feels like it belong to the modern Diaclone universe, and it's a fan-mode dream. People have come up with the requisite Gun mode, alt-tank modes that's closer to the sleeker concept art look. It can also do a Gerwalk and I've come up with a Robocop's ED-209-like attack drone mode out of it. It's a legit Six-changer.
And this Megatron's hands... OMG I think that's the most articulated pair of hand for a mass retail figure. I always hated how Hasbro ignored the engineering of their figures' hands. They always looks bad & lazy unless a figure comes with 2 weapons accessories. An open 5mm hole for a hand is just ugly (one of the worse is SS86 Blurr/Kup mold due to the thinness of the fingers). I just wish Hasbro will do this for all Leader & higher class figures.
The price of a Titan/Commander/Leader here in Canada is such that I rarely do pre-orders anymore for these classes (unless they're Dinobots and this Megatron). It's such a big jump in price difference from a Voyager to Leader, and Leader to Commander. I feel in general Hasbro would put more effort into a Voyager than a Leader. Tarn & Jhiaxus got fingers and superb articulation while most Leader don't. Every Dinobots got a missing weapon. Why? How!?
Commanders are so much more expensive (without deep discounts like we saw from Skyfire, Skylinx to Rodimus, prices I haven't seen drop below $100CAD since) now but at least in-hand, I feel Hasbro designers have put near maximum effort into making the best version of the characters as possible (the lack of hand engineering is still a constant issue) and I'm happy I got every single one of them.
SS Leader Fallen is a joke. Next to no improvement on articulation and transformation from the old Voyager. Only good for its size. Not worth it at all.

I transformed CBBM Megatron into his tank mode and I had to look up the instructions for a single step. Otherwise, the thing is tighter than a nervous newlywed on her first married night. You can also feel the density of everything, without any hollows anywhere. He also look better in tank mode in person than in videos.
I'll do the jet soon and after that, I'll improvise some fan modes.
Yeah, he's small, but he's meaty and I like it.
Worth the full price? I guess it is.

I called it a Six-changer Plus, the "Plus" being him having 2.5 tank variants.
So far, he's a:
Bot
Tanks (1. official, 2. Emiliano's concept (legs twisted sideways), 2.5 Emiliano's concept but the front of legs facing up so the treads are on the ground. I'm not spoiling the fun for you to experiment)
Jet
Gun
Gerwalk
MEG-209 Attack Mech (think Robocop's ED-209)... I like this mode the best.
Extra Bonus tank modes: Have the jet's cockpit half-folded out like Blitzwing. Another is have Megs' head pop out to pay homage to his ROTF Tank mode. Both are worth a chuckle.
As for the price, I look at it this way: he doesn't look out of place next to Yolopark's AMK or next to ThreeZero MDLX, in both looks & articulation. Dude's a gymnast! Only thing really missing is an ab crunch and cost less than half of an MDLX. He's solid. No hollowness. He's a steal looking at it from that perspective. Take half an hour to do a weathering and little detailing touch up and he'll look like a $100~$150 dollar 3P figure.
I hope his hands' articulation is the next standard for Leader & up, while Tarn/Jhiaxus for Voyager.

Another try at a robot that turns into a tank and a jet, and another fail.
Seems it’s just hard to make a tank turn into a jet.
G1 Blitzwing is still surprisingly the best at it.

But hopefully not the last.

The unproduced Animated Megatron figure that everyone wants to see appear in Legacy or whatever replaces it and the design team didn't say no to.

If they are now doing Concept art figures, does that mean we can get those Transtech figures we saw for the sequel to Beast Machines?
Re: Transformers SS Leader Class Concept Art Megatron Found in Canada + Video Review and Comparisons

Probably not in Studio Series since they didn't actually get any media behind it (outside of some club stuff), but they could probably do something in the main line.

I LOVED those Transtech designs. I want to see those in the worst way.

You guys do know that if they ever actually do do that Animated Marauder Megatron that it's just going to get G1-ified and won't actually look as good that old test shot, right?

You know, with a few minor tweaks, that could be a FOC/WFC type of Blitzwing.

In this case G1-ification would be an improvement. That old concept looks terrible in the 2 vehicle modes. The robot mode looks halfway decent.Sabrblade wrote:You guys do know that if they ever actually do do that Animated Marauder Megatron that it's just going to get G1-ified and won't actually look as good that old test shot, right?

I know G1 nostalgia is a powerful thing, but is this a widely held belief?
As someone who only got into Transformers around the Beast Wars era, I always thought G1 Blitzwing was pretty bad. The jet looked good from the top down but mass of junk under the wings was visible from any other angle (which IMO is the same for pretty much every jet mode we've seen in a jet-tank triple changer since) and the jet cockpit just brazenly sticking out in tank killed the whole look for that mode too. And of course the robot mode suffered heavily to accommodate the other two.
Totally subjective of course, I'm just curious as to which one is generally considered the best mass-produced attempt at a jet-tank transformer.

I agree. Having once had G1 Blitzwing in my collection, I was quite familiar with its strengths and weaknesses. The jet cockpit sticking out of the front of the tank is the most infamous. But for me, the weakest point was the jet tail fins serving as the robot's only 'feet'. They wouldn't hold in place, they were thin, loose and wobbly, and completely unsuitable for holding up and balancing the figure's weight. For all the flaws of the new Legacy version, they at least fixed that issue.
Though that only raises the question in my mind that many bring up when Legacy Blitzwing's flaws are challenged. When the issue of the jet cockpit at the front of the tank is raised, defenders often point to the G1 figure and say 'G1 accuracy' was paramount to the designers. But if that's the case, why didn't they also have the jet fins as his only feet for the same reasons? Why was the flaw of Blitzwing's dinky, dainty feet worth fixing for the Legacy version, but not the horrible jet cockpit sticking out from the front of the tank....?

I think you are mixing up toy and toon. G1 Blitzwing had actual feet in the cartoon along with the cockpit in tank mode, the cockpit's appearance in the toon tank mode is what gives it a pass for some. I would have been fine without it if it meant a better jet mode.

Widowmaker is from AOE Concept art (like BB Megatron), and was an initial concept for who would eventually become Stinger. Same alt mode, even! A very left field pick, but I'm down for it! She'll look really cool with Stinger and the other KSI bots.
We actually have a LOT of concept art for the character, but this is one of the main ones:
