"Up for auction is the elusive Generation 2 Megatron ATB Prototype proposed for late 1995 that has been unreleased. This figure, as well as a few other figures, were repaints of existing toys being reused as new or classic characters upgraded in newer forms. In this exception, Megatron (the large ATB) was chosen along with Starscream (the small jet) as his personal sidekick for identities of this repainted set. As with other G2 prototype toys, this figure was placed in a mock up or preproduction packaging to show how they would appear before actual production would begin. These figures have never made it past this stage of production & have only been available to Hasbro/Kenner employees at that time & I believe were also auctioned off during Botcon '96 for a charity raffle. The item is MISB, but does have some creasing & corner damage on the top left side of the box. I obtained this item through a local comic shop some years ago that had dealt directly with Hasbro/Kenner & Takara employees whom had sold or traded their collections. This item has never been displayed & has been kept safe in storage since I have owned it until listing it here.
*Note: This item was released a few years later as part of the Japanese Beast Wars II line as Starscream (small jet) & B.B. (ATB). However, there are quite a few differences between both items. Listed are Megatron's differences:
NO chrome strip along front cockpit & wings Lighter gray/white plastic for limbs FLAT black paint used for both figures SEMI-transparent yellow windows Intake decals with MEG24D stamping Rear exhaust decals with G2 faction Starscream fin decals spelled CORRECTLY Box Mispressed with Autobot faction
As a bonus: On the back of the box there is a small picture depicting other figures available for sale. Shown there is photo of another prototype figure that was unreleased: the BLUE laser-cycle repaint Soundwave!"
