Transformers Masterpiece MP-29 Bouei Sanbou Shockwave

They are really pushing that this is the cartoon version.

It doesn't mean "Sunbow" though...

"Bouei Sanbou" is 防衛参謀 -- chief of defence.

Or Military Strategist/Operations.....his old designation

Yeah, except the package shot looks like he has to go to the bathroom really bad.

And Amelie, I thought the Daca Toys Kronos was a good effort at a MP Skyfire, I'm sure the Takara people could improve on that design and release an actual MP Skyfire.

Rodimus@ I think the point that amelie was making was that sky fire was too big to fit within the established scale...unless takara get bigger (with cost as well) to get scale right.

I would love to buy him now, but I don't have the cash for it at the moment. I really hope I can find a vendor at Botcon selling him for a good price.

That much is true. And while the vendors' prices might not be great (I think, at least. I've never been to a convention, but I assume as such looking at collectible stores' prices), at least it's not eBay.

Yes, you must pay shipping with BBTS. But if you use their 'pile of loot' feature, you can at least bundle it with OTHER purchases and reduce the overall shipping cost by splitting it among several items. That is, if you have the skratch to buy multiple items...

And as Death, I do enjoy loot.

Responding to two previous points of discussion with the following pic.

This is the box art for the figure. It is not in the "ARE ALL DEAD" pose:

And while it isn't as on the mark as it could be, his title of "Bouei Sanbou" is translated on the box as "Military Operations Commander"

I would very much doubt someone could get this item MISB at a covnetntion this year for cheaper than this:

Subtotal: 12,590 JPY
Shipping: 1,690 JPY
Points used: 380
Grand total: 13,900 JPY

That is $124 USD shipped (registered). I just paid that this morning and I will be getting this toy next week. That is 36$ less than the US online retailers. If anyone is planning on buying this toy this year and wants the best price, look no further than here: http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail ... agecnt%3D1

Conventions are good for used toys and older toys, especially people wishing to sell their collections. But for new toys and hot toys in demand, it is very smilar to e-bay. They actually up the price since they know those are hot items and thats the best place to find desperate fans looking for said hot items. The price gouging of Gen Arcee at conventions is disheartening.

Shockwave appears to be an awesome mold, but his colors are extremely blah. They're taking the "animation" accuracy to a painful level. Hopefully this mold gets a G1 toy color scheme. This is what color he should be:

As someone who has sold at conventions before, don't forget the high cost of just having a dealer booth. Some dealers are taking advantage of the scene, but others are just trying to make a buck after the cost of the booth space, product displays, paying employees, their own time just to be there instead of at their store or whatever, credit card processing fees, buying new products for their store, etc. Cost of business isn't cheap.

I'm saving up for this one because after what happened with MP Soundwave, and more recently with MP Starscream's re-release, I don't think there's any way that any collector can hope to find this on the shelf at TRU or anywhere else that Hasbro may cut a deal with to distribute.

There has still been absolutely no sign of MP Starscream anywhere. He's currently about $200-ish on Amazon. As popular as Shockwave is, you may as well get the foreign version because after scalping and all the other hassles that you're likely to go through while waiting for Hasbro to get this on the shelf? You'll actually SAVE time and money by just ordering right now from Japan or wherever.

From the photos, it looks like they carried over some of the flaws from G1 all the way to 2016. Looks like you STILL won't be able to jam the legs all the way up to seal the gaps near the gun body and the 'handle'. Hopefully the photographer was just lazy...

Thats if Hasbro even tries to release it. Hasbro doesnt like releasing transformers shaped as guns (which is odd since they own Nerf, but go figure). The rerelease of Classics Megs may be a sign that they are slowly coming around.

Thats pretty much it, yeah. Skyfire is just simply too big of a toy for Takara to grapple. Which is probably why the MP Devastator idea got simplified down into Combiner Wars, too.

I think the scale we got in the end for the toys worked out ok. Looking at the generations line, keep the classics Optimus and Megatron as your faction leaders and leader Ultra Magnus and Jetfire work well enough.

It's all in the lighting. Different light sources make the shade of purple look different. For example, this pic makes the purple look really dark and not so lavender:

Whereas other pics make the opposite look true, giving the purple a light and pale appearance.

Yeah....he's incredibly bland looking. There's no "POP" to this colour scheme at all. He suffers from GPS which I affectionately refer to as "Grey Plastic Syndrome". That shade of Purple also leaves much to be desired. This release needs a FAR more dramatic colorway to put it over the top.

Great looking figure though. An absolute must have and it's engineering appears to be executed wonderfully. It's just that boring ass colour palate that kills it for me.

I also want sound effects. I think i may be the only person left that feels that sound effects are an integral part of the playability of a true MP Shockwave. That's a gimmick that should have carried over into the engineering of this release.

Call me crazy if you must. Lights and sound are what blew me away with Shockwave when i was a wee lad.

Regarding the complaints of his paint job being "bland," I think it kinda makes him even more of a Masterpiece, as it fits with his bland personality. Yeah, I know that the G1 figure was colored a sharp purple, but the character on screen in the cartoon was rather bland-colored himself. So it fits, even if it's not visually appealing. Just my opinion, though. 8-)

His personality is nowhere near bland. He's a cold calculating super villain with a vision for Universal domination.
I would think Soundwave more epitomises the embodiment of a "bland character" than Shockwave ever was. Soundwaves MP figure has a fantastic paint job with metallic paint and a deep rich sparkly blue which is the complete antithesis of the depth and profile of that character. If we're talking in cartoon context anyways.

They should have at least matched the G1 toy colour much like they did Soundwave and less the pale lilac, lavender and grey colorway they chose. On top of using clear plastic for the transclearant plastic is just insult to injury as far as i'm concerned. It could have at the very least been purple.
It just looks Brony to me. Nothing says "EVIL Decepticon" at all about the current colours shown.

Yes, and that's his only character trait. He's single-minded and doesn't deviate from it. He's boring. Bland. I like Shockwave for the potential he has, not for what he has achieved so far. I liked him in the G1 comics, even though he wasn't used to his full potential.

Agreed on Soundwave. However, anytime there is discussion of a character, I immediately think of the G1 comics version, it's my default version to go to as it is what I grew up with. Sometimes I have to remind myself that not everyone is that way.

Yup. Let's all respect each other's opinions. Some see blue others red in a single object. Just natural. We're only human.

Your opinion on how bland Shocky was in the show really conflicted with his box bio/tech spec. Never realized he was also gunning for Meg's position. I wonder why they dropped that part off the script? Maybe two schemers would be too confusing?

Now if we combine both the Marvel and cartoon version (just gives me shivers to have an intellectual mass "murderer" with that Sark voice)........

Or maybe in another reality, Hasbro does a DBZ and re-animates the entire Season 1 and 2, fix the plot holes and inconsistent animation? And adds the neglected Shockwave personality :x

Yet purple is the combination of those colors. :-P

Hence why I said he was wasted potential even in the original comics, where he got the most development. He was just the straight forward "the Decepticons will conquer and I will rule. Why? Because it's logical." He is 1 of my favorite comic characters as it is. Had he been given a bit more personality he quite possibly could have been the best Decepticon character ever. Imagine Shockwave's abilities combined with Starscream's desire for example. He would be nearly unstoppable and certainly a better leader than Megatron.
Now if we combine both the Marvel and cartoon version (just gives me shivers to have an intellectual mass "murderer" with that Sark voice)...
Yeah, very scary. Add his penchant for experimentation, and you have a comic book robot Hitler. Speaking of, I think originally he was kind of intended to be Megatron's mad scientist sidekick, much like Josef Mengele was to Hitler.
Or maybe in another reality, Hasbro does a DBZ and re-animates the entire Season 1 and 2, fix the plot holes and inconsistent animation? And adds the neglected Shockwave personality :x
With today's technology? I would love to see that! I might even watch the cartoon more often.

What about the IDW version? He became a threat big enough that megs and prime had to team up to take him down, and he killed bumblebee (I'll let that one sink in). He was only brought down because of megatron doing the most illogical thing he could think of that broke shockwaves mind, autobranding himself.

I'll agree that the colours could be better, but I can't fault them considering they're cartoon accurate. That said, I'd love it if Takara did a toy colours version, with shiny silver chrome instead of grey and dark sparkly purple instead of lavender.

I wholeheartedly agree. Love this character and the toy. Even without this feature though and the lighter color scheme (which I know I'm in the minority here-I'm totally down with!)I look forward to displaying him with a certain 3rd party Megs.

I know he originally had sounds and lights, but I would honestly prefer a non gimmicky figure that looks perfect, doesn't have to sacrifice something for said gimmick and is a little cheaper. Heck I'd even prefer painted eyes over light piping on MPs so the back of the head doesn't have that transclearant window.
