Is there anything of note happening today or is it just a randomly-assigned day?

Anniversary of the original US airing of the G1 cartoon. Several other anniversaries this year too, but that's the one that's apparently been picked to be The Day.

Of course, Real Ones know the actual Transformers Day isn't until the 20th, but hey, any day can be Transformers Day if you want it enough, right?

Real Ones will know actual Transformers Day is May 8th.

And I'm counting from the day the US comic hit the stands, which came before all other beginnings, thus making it the only true original.

Wasn't the US comic May 29th? Correct me if I'm wrong (sending up a bat signal for Sabrblade) but I thought May 8th was some promo material and the actual comic was the 29th. Confusingly, the wiki lists
both dates as TF #1's release!
It should be obvious I'm joking about what the most significant date is, by the way... Look at my location.

Another date that may deserve the name of Transformers Day: July 2nd 2007. The day the first live action film hit theaters this reinvigorating the franchise with a massive influx of profit. It certainly had a major effect on other media and future toy lines.
