TheMuffin wrote:THAT WORKS! And checking around I've found that originally the warranty was indeed 90 days and was then extended to a year about 2 months after the consoles release. I just look at it this way. You have a used console and you fix it. The 3RLOD error will never ever rear it's head again and you've saved $200. In my mind that's worth the hour of easy work compared to always having to worry about your system dieing and then having to wait almost a month to get it back. And then wondering if it will happen again. My 360 is the only thing I've ever gotten used and it was the best idea I ever had.

And one more thing...I had no clue prior to reading that PDF as to how to pull my 360 apart. I was as much a newb as anyone else. All I'm saying is that it's a viable option to avoid ever having to worry about an obscenely common system killing error. Hell I believe the count for people fixing their system is over 4000 now last time I checked xbox scene. Thats way more than a few "tech savy" people.

Keep in mind however that the only reason I'm debating this is because I like to push your buttons.

How can you guarantee that the 3 red lights wont ever happen again? The system might still fail BECAUSE IT IS USED. You might end up with an unreadable disc error, how do you fix that? Or the HD might screw up, or something might go wrong with the motherboard. All things whose chances of happening are increased by buying a used system. Sure you might fix the ring of death error just to find another problem with the system. Thats why its not worth buying it used. And 4000 people is a tiny drop in the ocean compared to how many people actually own a 360. Casual newcomers to the scene do not want to buy a used console and have to fix it and void any warrenty they might have had.

And about pushing buttons...is that wise considering your position on this site? You are meant to keep people calm, not "push their buttons".

You take things way too seriously man. I'm screwing around with you to have some fun. Just because I'm a moderator doesn't mean I'm going to change my posting style. I'm not being confrontational, as I'm just throwing up some reasons for my thinking. Friendly debate bud.

And I don't see how buying a used system means that it would work any worse than a new system. You turn on your system once and it's considered used. Just because it has the title of "used" doesn't automatically equate it with "sub par" or "unreliable". It's all dependent on how the person before you treated the system. And even if I did have a new system I would still rip it open and pull those X-Clamps off once the warranty was up. Just opening up a system will not cause it to explode in your face. Hell the only thing that is even effected by the fix is the heatsinks which have no moving parts at all. It's not like Microsoft has what a Gamestop employee called a "system smasher" inside to destroy the components.....Yes. Gamestop employees actually said that if you mentioned modding the console within earshot in their store.:BANG_HEAD:

1: I am never serious. Ever. I even warn people while wearing a clown nose and giant shoes.

2: Gamestop employees were apparently told by management to mention that Microsoft had installed 'system smashers' inside the console to stop people from modding them. Supposedly they were two spring loaded pieces of metal that would get triggered when you opened the case.... This was found to be complete bullshit. Hell I actually had someone tell me that a week after it came out at my local EB Games. I laughed at them and pointed.

3: No I'm not joking. Should have seen Gamefaqs with all the people reporting GS employees telling them that. Hilarious ****.

Blech, I hate the little buggers.

I was interested until I played one a couple of times.

My wife may get one someday but I'd have no inclination to touch it. Also, Halo 3 isn't available on the Wii.

Any chance they're going to release an X-Box 360 B that has the flaws knocked out?
Check out my books, Titanomachies and Divine Retribution, on my blog!

Good on ya! I hate those outdated, underpowered gimmick filled kids consoles. They are pathetic imo. Cant wait for Halo 3 either!
