I got back into collecting at the tail-end of the Classics line, simply because they were updates on the characters I grew up with. 2008 was great for me becuause the Universe line is great, the Animated line then expanded on those G1 characters while still bringing something new to the table (and a decent cartoon to go along with it).
CP, great review of the year. As a teacher it is obvious to me that you know what you are doing when you write. Good work.
I always enjoy hearing what other collectors think about the hobby in general.
Happy New Year!

2008 was a fun year, although I found it expensive towards the end of the year. In the last four months of '08, I had bought the new BT Jazz and BT Convoy, as well as the gastank upgrade for Convoy, and the CC upgrade for Classics Magnus. Though oddly enough, on the last day of '08, I stopped in a Target after work and found a Universe Hound. After going to a walmart on new year's day, I found Cyclonus and the new Starscream, which means had I gone further out, I could've capped last year off with three new figures. I'm still undecided on Cheetor though.

You all are quite kind with the praise. It definitely inspires someone to write more often.
My hope for 2009 is to be constantly surprised by new and interesting releases. I would also really like to see the return of the 'New Years Special'. The last one we got was the Galvatron reissue. Something big and special, ala Scorponok or Trypticon would be just great.
