Hey guys and gals.

I am looking to purchase an MP Soundwave but the huge price for Hasbro's Soundwave makes me feel like getting Takara's second run instead and look for the extra casettes later.

I was wondering fs the second run had any issues as compared to the original or the Hasbro version and what the main differences between Hasbro's and Takara's Soundwave was. Is the material used any different? Apart from the eyes (which Takara has a better version of) is there any other difference in the deco?

The visor is the only concrete difference. afaik the only differences in the actual Soundwave figures are:

- Visor Color
- Some minimal paint app around the foot.
- Color of screws in the back

i have the takara version and he's top notch. from what ive heard theyre identical aside from the yellow and red visors. easiest road is probably the hasbro version since he comes with all the cassettes.

personally i regret not buying the hasbro version when i had the chance. call me crazy, but i bought the takara one for the visor, and paid more for the pleasure of being screen accurate. but i did find the yellow one quite fetching.

Thanks guys. I will go for the takara (if I do) simply because the Hasbro is simply unobtainable right now. He might have been sheap when he first appeared but now the prices he is fetching is the equivalent to buying the takara and the casettes individually. So there's not much point to choosing the hasbro over the takara at this price point

Some of those who got the Hasbro had issues with his fingers. If you can snag the Tomy then go for it but be prepared to get the casettrons separately.

I totally missed out on picking up the Hasbro MP Soundwave and his lil buddies, so Ive started picking up the KO tape packs with an idea of picking up the Takara MP Soundwave via Amazon soon(ish) as my missus can get Amazon vouchers via 'Shop & Scan' memebership.
With a handful of vouchers and some hard earned cash, he will be mine, oh yes!

What are "fingertip missiles"? Is this a widespread issue? Have others reported the same thing? Just because some guy on some website said he had a problem doesn't mean there's a QC issue.

He had an issue. I reported it. If it's defective isn't a "quality control" issue? Isolated? Maybe. But an "issue" nonetheless. Just because one guy says it isn't a QC issue doesn't mean its not......... >:oP

If one case is enough to constitute a "QC issue", then every Transformer, every toy, and every product ever made in the history of manufacturing has had QC issues, so there's no point in even saying that a figure has QC issues; it's implied.

So now you going against your statement about the incident I mentioned of "not being a quality control issue" because "all" products have a "quality issue?"

It's kind of like Obama saying "I heard of it in the news" and then contradicts it by saying, nope, I've been on top of the issue all along.

My Takara (1st release) Grimlock had a "wrong battery" wedged into him. How many found out or reported it? Well I reported it here too. Just a piece or a dozen or hundred. Not a "Q.C"?

Again, it's like fudging the numbers in current events when is it a crisis or not? Or Xbox360 is a lemon because of the high incidence of RROD over PS3. It's all in the percentage?

In the end, both Tomy and Hasbro versions have Q.C issues. Just lucky enough that I am reporting what another collector reported. I have no complaints for my Tomy version just as I have a complaint on my Tomy MP-10 having rubber tire problems.

I have both the Hasbro MP-Soundwave and MP-Optimus (mp-10). Both have fingers that detach very, VERY easely. Especially the trigger finger. Both on Soundwave and Optimus, I had several cllose calls of nearly missing those fingers. Sure, you can re-atach them immediatly, but losing them is a risk and would suck immensely.

also, don't get me started on those other QC issues I had over the years:
-Some TFs with very weak joint that snapped like glass.
-Amason Unicron's minicon Kranix that came with 2 right feet.
-Alternators Oprimus prime with his gun-engine that have two right panels (or are assembled backward).
-My 90$ Henkei voyager Optimus with a botched paint job on his right wing.
-G1 re-issue Ultra Magnus have a missile-pod peg crooked at 45° on his left shouldertip.
-Voyager Deep Space Movie Starscream have his nosecone that dont peg properly in vehicle mode.
-And some other that I may have forgoten.

Does that mean that all Transformers are ****? Of course not. It's still suck every times a QC issue is happening. Especially for brand new items bought online.

ive got MP soundwave and soundblaster and dont have any issues. my MP TRU prime however....

i remember primes finger falling off a few times, and then one day it fell off and was never seen again. and since that something that i cant live with i had to buy another prime sans weapons and trailer, which STILL cost me over a hundred bucks. all for an index finger.

so if anyone hasnt heard, KFC (yeah i know) has made articulated hands for the MP datsuns and convoys. ill be getting the hasbro blue version so i can sell my fingerless double eventually. ill include a link below for anyone interested..

Not necessarily bashing the Hasbro version........MP-03 anime color Hasbro is said to be sturdier than MP-03 but also have a lot of fingertip issues...they keep on falling. Luckily I never lost one yet.

Was this prevalent? Who knows but really......it's really getting to be a pain when a lemon shows up and can't be replaced.

I was in the same boat. I was broke for the 6 seconds that the TRU version hit but I definitely wanted to get one. I looked for a while online but the prices for both versions were high. I got lucky enough to find a Takara at BotCon this year for $100 and a loose complete Ravage for $20. The moral of this story is this - if a good deal arises, pounce!
