BTW, is his shield and sword clear red or orange? Some pics show them as clear orange, but in other pics they look red.

Is it still a good toy for $20-$25? Most likely.
Is it going to make a nice addition to my collection? Definitely.

Thing is, in the game, Grimlock is not some shiny new model fresh off the assembly line. He's war-torn, abused, and in very bad shape. He likes to get down and dirty without worrying about his paint finish, so for his colors to be dulled here makes perfect sense for his warzone situation.camzilla51 wrote:Now it's not just a lack of paint apps, we've driven this point into the ground through recent years.. But the color of the plastic itself is visually dull and disappointing. It's not gold, it's tan (where were they with Swindle?) or even a yellowish brown, but far from gold. The developers of the game worked painstakingly to achieve metallic realism, and this figure is far from that look. Thankfully, Takara has been fixing that with their copies, and if their Grimlock is as beautiful as their Bruticus, I'm gonna sit and wait for it. Grimlock is worth it.
The reason he looks all shimmering and new in the promotional CG model renders is because those are meant to grab our attention of the game. They're supposed to look nice and neat so that we may want to buy and play the game. In the game itself, Grimlock's doing all kinds of brutal combat that there's no way he'd keep squeaky clean enough to look like a glossy gold/silver beauty.
If Takara does manage to churn out a metallic version that does resemble Grimlock after nice wash and wax session, that's cool. But this Hasbro version still looks like this Grimlock's been through a lot of unpleasant harshness, which fits in line with the game's events.
What gimmicks would those be? All I see is the light up feature, which this time is executed FAR better than anything the TF: Prime Voyagers have given us. and it fits in line with his portrayal in the video game since he'd breath fire in dino mode and his body would glow in robot mode just as his transformation to dino mode is triggered. The light up feature emulates both fairly enough.peaces wrote:hasbro would rather build grimlock around stupid gimmicks than make a nice figure.
Aside from that, the only other "gimmicks" (if you can call them that) I see are:
- His large size
- His sword and shield
- His Space T-Rex altmode

Does it count if his sword is attachable to his T-Rex mode's hips?
