Alex Mercer (Prototype) vs. Cole McGrath (InFamous)
- Motto: "May God have mercy on my enemies, because I sure as hell won't."
The stars of the two free-roaming superhero games that came out just a bit too close to one another, Prototype (Alex) and Infamous (Cole).
Cole has control over electricity, and can sap it from everything from human bio-electricity to streetlights, then release it in degrees ranging from electrically reinforced punch, to an electrical blast can can toss a car a reasonable distance, to unleashing a literal lightning storm. This power can also be used to revive injured people, slow a fall, climb buildings, or knock a man several yards. However, his strength is nothing special, and his endurance is only above average. (He can't survive being next to an explodes) And he can't survive being more than ankle deep in water.
Alex has control over his genetic structure, and can change it at will, manifesting as claws, blades, shields, a whip, massive hammer fists, or an entirely armored form. He can mutate to take on the appearance of his enemies, use thermal vision, or glide. he's also a Parkour practitioner, and has superhuman strength, endurance, and reflexes. However, his powers are entirely close range, although he can use guns or throw cars and other large objects.
The fight takes place in a large city, with plenty of things for Alex to throw, and plenty of electrical objects for Cole to sap.

It's a toss up, since electricity seems to be an achillies heel for alex, but on the other hand he's damn near invincible and he moves quite fast, I'd have to say Alex on this one.

So while Alex has speed, strength and endurance, Cole has immense raw power.

I have to say Alex. Cole may have raw power but he seems to have trouble shooting around things like fences, cars, and other misc metal objects.
If Alex can get within range and pull off one shot it's over.

Re: Alex Mercer (Prototype) vs. Cole McGrath (InFamous)
I'm going with Cole on this one...
The speed I'll give you that's to Alex's advantage all day. But Alex's strength will do nothing against Cole who can survive any fall, can use his powers to form a shield that will protect against Alex's attacks, and with the variety of ways he can use electricity as a weapon I just think Cole would be too much.
Don't forget also that the more electricity there is for Cole to feed off of (as you saw in the game every time he brought an area back online he obtained a new and greater power), Cole will become more and more invincible...eventually becoming like Kessler with the ability to travel through time.
Cole is no Superman but I think he can take Alex Mercer. Maybe Aquaman would be a better nemisis for Cole.

Couldn't he just blast a bolt of electricity into the water when Aquaman is in it and fry him...?

Yeah, that would be a really quick fight.
Having familiarized myself with both games a bit more, I have to say Alex wins, however, it's not easy and he probably limps away. He leaves on a stretcher if it takes place in, say, Times Square.

I haven't played Prototype yet and all I've played of Infamous was a demo at Toys R Us, but it almost made me want to buy a PS3 it was that fun

Are you kidding me? Alex would decimate Cole. I've thought about this before, and Cole literally has no chance.
Think about it, Alex is a lot more powerful than they let on. In game, they tone down his power/durability to give the game some balance. In the cut scenes, he's quite a bit more powerful. Especially after consuming Elizabeth Greene, it made him nearly invincible.
Cole can survive any fall, so can Alex, Cole can make a shield, so can Alex, but how powerful is Cole's shield? Enough to withstand Alex throwing a 24 ton Garbage Truck at it? Now some of you are going to say "Alex can't pick up Garbage Trucks".
Yes he can. And throw them. Alex can EASILY pick up a 12 ton helicopter and throw it wherever he feels necessary, and if he turns on Musclemass (which makes him twice as strong), he should be able to pick up and throw a garbage truck just as easily as the helicopter. I bet he could even do that easily without muscle mass, I've seen him throw cars REALLY HARD, he seems to pick how hard he wants to throw it, I've seen him throw them at short distances and the cars were flying really fast, and I've seen him throw them at long distances at which the cars went really high and far. His true strength is not known, but he's 24+ tons at the least.
As for any electricity attacks Cole would use, they would be pretty much ineffective against Alex, having consumed Elizabeth Greene, that combined his durability with hers, making him even more durable, of course. So Cole's not going to be able to hurt Alex.
Okay, now with Cole being literally unable to hurt Alex, let's think of some ways Alex could kill Cole.
Tossing him in a lake
Punching him, making his body explode into a million pieces
Tearing him in half
Tossing something heavy at him
Tendril Barrage
Critical Pain
Underground Spike
Spike Driver
Consumption
Cole's not getting out of this alive. Alex is getting out of this without a scratch on him.
If the entire US Military, a special forces group, city full of infected mutants, genetically enhanced soldiers (super soldiers), and an atomic bomb 5 times the size of the bomb that got dropped on Hiroshima couldn't kill Alex, Cole has no real chance.
And given the slightest possibility that Cole somehow does hurt Alex, which is NOT going to happen, but if it does, which it won't, but speaking hypothetically, Alex would simply have to grab some hapless civilian, and consume him. Just consuming one person would completely restore his health, because I know you have to consume a lot to get full health in game, but that's again for balance. He was able to completely reform his entire body by consuming a CROW in a matter of seconds. So consuming a person would be even better.
Alex will own Cole.

Wow, you are giving Mercer WAY too much credit, and giving Cole WAY to little.
Alex Mercer is not invincible. He can't even destroy a building with his bare hands, he needs to throw things at it. Cole's shockblast would halt any vehicle projectile thrown at him, if not return it. If Alex tries to grab him, Cole can unleash massive amounts of electricity until Alex lets go.
While I do think Alex would win, it would NOT be that easy.

I never said invincible, I said NEARLY invincible. He's much more durable than they portray him to be in game. Because who wants to play as somebody who doesn't even get hurt? Cole's blasts would be ineffective against Alex, he has the combined durability of himself (who was already very durable) and Elizabeth Greene (who's durability is comparable to his.)
And of course they don't let you destroy buildings with your bare hands in the game, that's again because they tone down his strength. Alex is a LOT faster than Cole, he could grab Cole and tear him in half before Cole knew what was going on.
Cole is pretty powerful, but nowhere near Alex's level.
And come to think of it Alex could be considered immortal, because extremely large-scale things that happen to him (such as the nuke) turn him into a puddle, then he just has to find something to consume, then he's back to his old self again.
And seeing as how Cole has no blast anywhere near as powerful as a nuke, he wouldn't be able to come remotely close to getting Alex in the puddle state.
Another thing Alex could do would be a stealth attack, sneaking up behind Cole and killing him before Cole knew what happened.
Cole can hardly defend himself against a few drug dealers with guns, while Alex has to deal with infected mutants, the US Army, Supersoldiers, and a special forces group all at the same time.
It would be that easy for Alex. Because Alex has had to deal with much more formidable enemies than Cole has.

Mercer is a virus, and like a virus he can easily be destroyed. For example, extreme heat. I'm willing to bet (I haven't finished Prototype) that he was not standing right next to the nuke as it went off underwater? If he was, he'd likely end up being sterilized and destroyed. Viruses die when exposed to extreme heat, lightning (Much like Cole's Lightning Storm) produces heat somewhere around 54,000F.
As for needing to heal, Mercer needs to eat people to heal, Cole just needs to be next to anything producing electricity. As I said before, this fight takes place in New York City, where everything produces electricity. And grabbing Cole would be just as effective if you or me grabbed a downed power line.
Like I said, Mercer still wins, but you are seriously exaggerating his abilities.
