Animated Megatron.
- Motto: "Individual freedom above all else."
So I was at WalMart today. I saw Animated Megatron on the shelf, and I picked him up. I have never seen TFA, so i know nothing about the characters. But this Megatron looks pretty good. There was Prime next to him, but I don't like how Prime looks. I am guessing they were Voyager class, because the boxes were the same size as the RoTF Voyager class boxes. But Megatron actaully looked pretty damn menacing. I am not sure about him, I just want to know what you people think.

Think about what?
How he looks?
Personally, I like the Leader class version better, and may pick it up if I ever find it again.

Leader > Voyager. However, that doesn't degrade what the Voyager has to offer. The cannon is really nice. I'd actually suggest picking up Animated Voyager Prime. Much nicer for it's size.

Oh sorry. I meant to ask would you guys recommend getting him for $20. Is he worth it? And Prime is really ugly. I don't think I'd spend $20 on him...

If the TFA Megatron figure you saw was a voyager class, it must be his Cybertronian form. I like the design but I wish it was a little more show accurate. The quick answer is no, I don't think it's worth $20 unless you have no other source for that figure. I'd say shop around for a better price first.
The longer part of my response is that there are some points I don't like about the voyager class figure.
My nitpicks are:
1) White colouring as opposed to metallic grey. There are a few spots that use the metallic grey paint such as the cockpit but most other parts that aren't black or transparent red are white. I'd like to see a consistent use of colour, especially since there's no reason to leave the larger and easier to paint parts white.
2) Tiny hands. Granted, he doesn't have huge paws in the cartoon but something a little more substantial would have been great.
3) Huge shins hide the thighs.
4) Odd placement of fusion cannon in robot mode and useless red blade gimmick.
5) Alt mode that is not similar to the brief appearance in the cartoon.
Now be aware that I don't own this figure(yet) so those nitpicks are from my non-hands on experience. The nitpicks are relatively minor because I just love the design of the Cybertronian form. For me, the fusion cannon's blade gimmick is the worst offender and I'd probably just take apart the cannon and remove the blade. Otherwise, the nitpicks aren't bad enough for me to not want to purchase the figure.
The only figure off the top of my head that I won't purchase from the Animated line is Lugnut because...come on, voyager class? Really? He should have been placed in the leader class for good scale.
To me, leader Megatron is the best of the Megs in the TFA line. I picked one up from Toys R Us for $20 CAD. However, I plan on getting the voyager and deluxe class versions as well.
Also, the deluxe class figure doesn't have the traits I dislike but I believe it has "battle damage" painted areas so it's not a "clean" figure. But I believe the paint is minor enough to remove easily with rubbing alcohol.
For reference, the appearance of Cybertronian mode Megatron the show is this:

Convotron details it well, but yeah, straight up, from the way you've been describing yourself, it sounds like you aren't that huge of an Animated fan, so the fact that Voyager Megatron isn't 'show-accurate' as the Leader class version probably shouldn't matter.
By all means, if you like a Voyager figure get it, opinions here shouldn't matter. However, I'm here for my opinion so.... Megatron isn't as good as Optimus, however it's still a decent Voyager, and has a nice alternate mode. Not the best Voyager out there, but it's not terrible or anything.

If i given a choice i would not pick up Voyager Megatron. Leader class TFA Megatron is much better.

^ This a thousand times over. I love Animated, and the Leader class Megs is AWESOME.
The voyager class Cybertronian one... meh. It's only OK... for all the reasons that Convotron detailed (I actually do own it, and agree with his assessment completely).

OK. I thought about getting it because it was the only one I saw in ANY store, and I thought maybe it was hard to come by. But I'm not an Animated fan (watching the very first episode I ever saw RIGHT NOW) I just thought it might have been a good addition to my Megatron collection.

If you like its look and it's the only one you've seen in any store you've gone to, I'd say pick it up. I think it's a good addition to your Megatron collection. If you are aiming to collect Megatrons in general, getting the voyager and leader versions in the Animated line covers the two visual looks the character has in the series.
I'm a fan of TFA and Megatron so I aim to have the deluxe(Cybertron mode), voyager(Cybertron mode), and leader(Earth mode) versions from the line. Deluxe because it's a good representation of the character and will be my default figure to play around with. Voyager because it's another good(despite my nitpicks) rep of the character and will scale well with the deluxe Cybertronian mode TFA Optimus Prime. Finally the leader class version because it's a great rep of the character and in proper scale with voyager TFA OP.

It would make a good addition to a Megatron collection - that's the only reason I bought the delux Prime/Megatron pack. The leader Megs is quite accurate but is knock-kneed. Voyager Prime is quite a good figure. Unfortunately if you decide to get Prime/Meg combos that are in scale you'll need Leader Megs and Delux Prime.

TFA voyager Megs was one of the first TFA figs that I bought when they were released.
I might be playing devil's advocate here, but given a choice, I would say go for the Leader class instead, or if you really want a Cybertron mode of him, get the deluxe.
Truth be told, the voyager Megs is my least favorite of the line. His legs are designed in a way that make him impossible to pose in any meaningful way. His cannon is waaayyyy too big and tends to overbalance the figure, not to mention that the funky hinged bracket along with the orientation of his forearms in relation makes it hard to position in a proper firing pose.
Worse yet, the entire figure has a cheap, flimsy feel to it that gives one the impression that it is easy to break.
I also agree with the aforementioned coloring issues with the sickly light grey coloring over his upper body and arms. Overall, I don't feel the mold captures the character from the show well at all.

If you want that Megatron for your collection, I'd suggest you to buy him, he is stable in robot mode unlike the Dx version, plus he looks like first movie Megatron but more g1-kid friendly. He is a great figure ignoring all the fiction. Sometimes you have to ignore the fiction in order to enyoy a Transformer. But I also have to recomend you voyager Optimus Prime, I love that toy.

That right there pretty much sold me on not buying it. I buy selected firgures anymore for their posability and how they improve my overall collection. Looks like I will be buying the MISB Allspark-Powered Megatron from the 2007 movie.

I thought leader Animated Megs looked pretty good, especially for an Animated fig...but the transformation was way too lame. Looked like half the transformation consisted of laying him down on his front side. It's too bad because I coulda picked him up for $20 at TRU a few weeks back. Space is becoming too limited for large "display only" pieces, though.

Leader. I think it's the answer to Nightwatch Prime, because I found it next to him in the same type of big red box.
He also had the alien jet alt. mode.

The figure you're referring to doesn't exist. You're probably thinking of Premium Series Megatron. Either that, or it's a regular blue Voyager Megatron in a Leader sized box. I assume the extra stuff looks like ice, correct? Given it's Wal-Mart I wouldn't be surprised...

I think he's $10 at amazon.com right now, and BBTS may have him for the same price. I personally can't recommend the voyager version, but for $10, you might see something you like that I can't appreciate. That said, if you can find Leader Megatron for $20, he's highly recommended.

Leader Megatrons Alt mode grew on me over the months, So i would recommend him. Twin swords are nice, as well as a dual rotor blade design..
I will probably get the shadow blade megatron, just so my Night Watch 2007 movie prime will engage in nighttime warfare against him...and because the purple and black is unique to me
Nonetheless, I recommend leader TFA megs.
