Well, that would be kind of tough to screw up, even for Hasbro....

I wouldn't say appalled as it is just a toy...but they are pretty lame....
My cousin had brought back the Jango Fett one...it was awful!

I like 'em, and I'm not a Star Wars fan.
I just get the ones I like, as with any figure.

The alt-mode is usually spot-on with most of them but the robot mode is just terrible.

You just described 90% of Generation 1.

Well, you know, the classics, they have a time-worn tradition of being gotten right.....it's hard to mess up an old stand by like jello wresting....so even Hasbro should get it right. ;)

Something else that I thought about these toys, I don't like how they're sort of loaded down with Star Wars references that aren't really applicable. I know that sounds awful, but this is what I meant:
The bios on the packages say things like "Obi-Wan uses the Force to" turn into a robot-Jedi-starfighter hybrid thing, but there's nothing in the films (don't read the comics or novelizations, so I can't be sure about in those) about Jedi or anyone using the Force to alter their appearances, let alone change themselves in to these mecha things. THe Sith can hide their presence through the Force (yeah?) but that's a long way away from merging with a vehicle to form a suit of armor/robo-Jedi manifestation.
That irks me. Sorry for the unintelligable post. Just wanted to say.

I've always found the slightly kooky look of G1 (read Diaclone) pleasing. They look clumsy, mechanical, alien. I suppose that's where the later G1 starts to fail, really - the technology\engineering simply weren't good enough for toon-accurate bot modes.

Star Wars TFs are kooky, but in an unattractive way.

You make an incredibly valid point.

If they had done this, I would have actually bought them. It would be sort of a "what if" alternate story line with the TF characters ending up in the SW universe and scanning alt modes from those vehicles. As they are though, I have no interest whatsoever.

Thank you. And it would've been so easy to do, too. Can you imagine an entire line like that? And comics, a TV show, the whole nine yards?

Most of them are crap, there are a few that are meh, and a couple that are pretty good. After the Darth Star I'd say the Magna Guard is my favorite. He does break the cardinal rule though, you have to take a couple of pieces off and reattach them somewhere else. On the plus side he doesn't have a weird robo-human head and he's got some cool weapons.

I liked the idea, liked several of the toys, but from the day they started to get rid of the mini-pilots, it was all downhill from there. They need to reboot the concept and have real TF designers on board with better plastics, better joints and better transformations.

As has been said, great alt modes, bad mech's. I bought a lot of early ones and out of every three only one was decent. Luke/Snowspeeder stands out in my mind as well as Cody/Clone Tank. The Marvel ones have a TOUCH better plastic but that is all. I bought a few and have my eyes on some of the new ones but we'll see.

I like the Death Star and the Sith Starfighter versions of Darth Vader but the head just looks wrong on the Tie Fighter. Something about the Starfighter's red eyes reminds me of G1 Straxus, which i do like.

Like some of the Movie Toys, it's the heads I have a problem with. The big Boba Fett head on the Bot mode just looked naff. I would have loved if they had the traditional TF head style and as someone else suggested, were Transformers arriving in the Star Wars universe.

Would also have been nice if they WEREN'T Prime, Starscream or the usuals but new groups of Autobots and Decepticons like in Beast Wars or the Headmasters comics. AND definitely not meant to be the actual SW characters either. A good storyline would have been nice with maybe the Sith forming an uneasy alliance with the Decepticons and Palpatine's ship being the Decepticon Commander, with a Zarak/Scorponok dynamic where they don't trust each other but grudgingly work together.

Plus with the force, the human Jedi are capable of taking on a Transformer not just the usual run away TF/human dynamic.

I do like that Jedi with the visor. It's a cool idea, shame about the scrunchy alien face. The Troopers are nice army builders.

So much potential. Shame it was wasted because the alt modes are top notch.

Yeah, the Star Wars fans which was their main focus ;)

I've seen a couple of them, just seen, and they look OK. Not great, but OK. I can easily accept the robot mode for they are as the designs are sometimes hampered by the unusual design of some vehicles. Plus, Star Wars fans aren't all that familiar with TF I'm assuming so they need not be too complicated for a better looking (to us) bot.

I'm not planning on getting any, mind you, though I did consider the Death Star. There's just something about living planet wanna-be's :P Speaking of which, I wonder how Marvel's Ego would look like if made into a TF...
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

As I recall Hasbro launched this line as a way to attract SW fans to Transformers. At the time Hasbro believed with Episode III that was the end of the media branch of the franchise and felt that SW toy sales would slow.

you do realize if they make a Jar-Jar Binks Transformer that everyone is going to buy him to destroy him and thus make it the biggest selling toy in history.

...no just no.. OH DEAR GOD MAN ARE YOU INSANE? lol

the idea behind crossovers are good - but in the execution does it truly become a test of fail or success. as with what Mkall said, and a few others for that matter, the idea would have been more successful IF it had been actual vehicles to TF's that we know and love.

Yes i could see a few decepticons transforming into a few TIE fighters.. i mean.. Megatron as the Deathstar? (overstreaching perhaps?)

then again that is what should have been done - sadly common sense went out the window, cos whatever they were smoking at R&D for the designing - get me some of that!

Megatron as Vader's TIE. Hell, throw in some EU vehicles like the E-Wing. A full-fledged crossover. Luke vs. Megatron. Wedge Antilles in his X-wing vs. Starscream. Bluestreak and Anakin Solo vs. Wildrider. The possibilities would've been endless!

this is true...buut...I don't fully see megs being used as vader's ship (even though he's more machine than man, and just as twisted and evil) still for the benefit of the empire they might cooperate.....just...

I understand what you mean, but for me that idea wouldn't work. I love Transfomers, and I love Star Wars, but I don't have much of an interest in a combo of the two. I said before that I pickd up some of the initial SW TFs, mainly out of curiosity. I think you are correct though, that a true crossover line would be very successful in general, I just couldnt get behind it. Well, maybe. Guess I'd have to see it in reality.

Okay, fair enough. I floated the idea past several of my friends at work and they all loved the idea.
