anyone else really not care about G1 toys?

Feel free to discuss anything about any of the thousands of Transformer toys here. Anything from Generation 1 all the way to the soon to be released, the never to be released or the hope to be released is fair game! Want to show off your stuff? Please post your's and see others in the Transformers Collections Forum.

I'm kinda in the same boat, but I got into Transformers with Generation 2, and thus the only thing I have close to being like a G1 is a G2 soundbox Optimus Prime junker. To be honest I think that mold must be pretty damn good for it's day given what articulation it does have, but ultimately my collection prioritizes playability over anything else, so most if not all G1 stuff is way on the back burner for me. Really I'd buy a G1 in a heartbeat if the price was right... but I look at the combination of size, poseability, material content, and price... and it's just not quite good enough.

And they had mass.
Nowadays, most transformers turn from realistic family cars to wimpy skeleton-formers. There are minimal to none accesories, so tfs can actually pose, but otherwise have no play value; transformations mean adjusting panels like a Rubiks cube; no stickers, no battle pictures on the back of the box, and I can continue my complains for a while.

Transformers lost so many fun factors since G1, and gained only little.

i agree, while i love today's figures, g1 had more diversity. plus i love the base modes and city modes!

G1 may not have had a huge amount of articulation but they turned from realistic looking vehicles to cool looking robots with a simple transformation that's fun for a kid. Over time they have sacrificed some of these aspects for better or worse depending on your opinion but for me early G1 had these aspects which I enjoyed. Plus having decent characters in accessable fiction never hurt.

;) Just messin' with ya!

It's cool. For those of us who grew up with G1, the toys are pieces of our childhood; and we like reliving a little bit of that childhood whenever we pick up a vintage toy, either one that's new to us, or a replacement for a well-used figure we've had since we were seven. For those who came along for the newer series, you have your own favorites, and that's fine.
Mainly 'cause it leaves more of the rarer G1 toys for us old fogies to collect.

Yeah, defiantly missing the old back-o'-the-box art, and the clip-n-save tech specs and bio too. Even the character art is rather lacking, y'know?

I am with many of the people who posted that if it were not for the G1 figures, we would be without their modern counterparts. Things have to start from somewhere, otherwise they won't ever evolve.

I like pieces from every line. From the elegant simplicity of G1 Prime to the detail, articulation and engineering complexity of MP Prime, there is something for everyone.

Being a child of the 80s, and having watched G1 cartoons when it was on Saturday morning, I will always have a special place in my heart for those toys, bricky as they may be. I have some loose and MISB toys (my priced possessions: MIB Grimlock, MIB Shockwave, MIB 5 Predacons, MIB Liokaiser, and MISB Blitzwing & Sandstorm). I love the classics/universe/generations and I will continue to buy new Hasbro/Takara toys, but if the price is right I will buy the G1 toys as well. BTW I recently found both of my MIB Roadbusters so I'll be selling one in the near future.

I too am a big fan of the G1 toys. Back in the '80 when I was smack-dab in the middle of the Transformers-target market I didn't have many of them, but always used to spend hours pouring over the catalogs and booklets showing pictures of all the cool Transformers toys I'd BADLY want. So many different vehicles, creatures, objects and even cities, in so many different sizes... combined with my own fantasy, the comics and the cartoons, these all really came to life. But back then, I didn't really have any of the coolest main characters: I had Slag, Thundercracker, Skydive, Groove, Flywheels and the complete Stunticon team, and that was it.

After college I came back to Transformers due to Beast Wars and the RiD Car Brothers and their incredible articulation. And I do still like all the articulated figures, especially the new versions of old characters. However, for me, I'll always prefer the G1 versions. It's funny that the second post (By 'It Is Him') in this topic named (and shamed) G1 Bludgeon: it's actually a G1 Transformer that I was able to buy pretty recently, and I seriously think he's great. Yes, it's a brick with movable arms in another brick with movable arms, but he looks great, is pretty detailed and represents the original inspiration for a classic TF bad guy. True, at the end of the day articulation of TF's isn't really a big thing with me, as I buy TF's for display and perhaps some messing about with. For toys from that age (and a lot of which go even further back to the '70s, in the case of the Diaclone molds) the transformations weer often excellent: simple but involved.
And yes, I do sometimes pay $100+ for G1 TF's that are MIB or are the larger or rarer figures, and I feel no regret in doing so. I know I'd rather have a $100 G1 Devastator than a $100 RotF Devastator or a $100 Leader Starscream (which is about the European price).
I'm so meta, even this acronym...

You don't have to pay $100 for some good G1 toys. I have 2 complete Omega Supremes, a complete Metroplex, an working-electronics Trypticon (missing only the radar dishes), and a complete die-cast Predaking and I didn't spend over $80 on any of them. Watch ebay and wait for deals.

I love the new stuff thats out there. But, given the choice of a Generations Optimus Prime and G1 Prime, G1 wins every time.

Actually, I take my G1 Prime off the shelf to play with a lot more than any of my other Primes. That pretty much goes for all my G1 stuff. The have simple, fun transformations and are pretty durable.

Heh, yeah, that was when the worst transformers on the market were the actionmasters. They still captured the characters better than any RPM, Stealth Force or other alt.mode only figures that are sold nowadays.

They had articulation? I only ever messed with my cousin's Action Master Prowl once and I don't call those floppy 2 jointed legs articulation.

As a child of the eighties, I'm heavily influenced by nostalgia, so primarily I collect G1. Although I'm appreciative of everything else TF that followed that original iconic series, G1 will always be my undying favourite.

Yeah, it's obviously a loaded question. For every line that's ever been released there will be those who don't like said line. For me it's the beast era, but I don't need to start a thread to know I'm not alone.

I don't collect G1 toys either. I'm only sixteen, and I started collecting in the fall of 2006. The only two G1 toys I ever got were reissues of Astrotrain and Soundwave (and Laserbeak and Ravage, who came with him), and they were both before I started caring about articulation, or even noticed how superior the engineering of modern toys is to that of G1 toys. It's not that I don't care about G1 at all. I just collect modern versions of G1 figures rather than the original figures.

While The gen 1 toys are nice Ive been spoiled by the articulation and durability that started with beast wars. Now I do hate the movie figures for their lack of complete robot modes, Id rather have almost every other line save for armada and energon than their g1 equivalent.

I have all the TF's released from G1 (most of them originals I bought way back when) and I am glad that I do not have to play "catch up".

Yes, I do care about them because if not for them and their popularity, this fandom would not exist today as they set the benchmark back then.
So if you are a fan of the toys now, gust give thanks for G1..

yeah, there's some G1 I've felt I had to have (trypticon, Astrotrain, Grimlock) and some I wouldn't pay over a dollar for (throttlebots, gears)

the newer toys are kind of better, ball joints, more poseability, if an arm pops off, can usually pop it back on.
there are some exceptions, but in general, there's more newer ones i'd want, than g1, even g1 I had as a kid

modern versions of g1 though, those are usually fine
