Arcee combination; my attempt at solving the riddle...

Postby nemesis primus » Thu Aug 05, 2010 6:08 pm

So as we can all guess, there is no way that arcee, elita-1 and chromia will combine to form a mode similar to the concept. They all attach at angles that mis-align the wheels, wrong weapons etc. Then I found artwork from an unknown artist which shows a combo in which arcee has two guns; one armed, other shoulder mounted, and a saw blade in her other hand. It ran on two wheels and stood upright. So, taking my arcee, chromia and custom elita-1 I set about trying to replicate this mode in the hope I was on to something... i think I was:

Here's just a look at my old custom elita-1 i made a few months ago as well:

Hope this is the right way to go with the combo :)

Weapon: Twin Sonic Cannons
Kinda looks like Arcee holding two large laser blasters.

Still looks horrendously ugly though. IMO of course.

LMAO. Or just render down the plastics and make one huge version of Arcee. granted I'm of the opinion that the 1984 movie version of Arcee was the best.

Hmm, never really understood why people were so obsessed with the Arcee combiners. Terrible designs and so ugly that even Hasbro gave up and abandoned the combiner.

Was an interesting experiment by Hasbro to create the strangest figures they could, just a shame it failed.

Yuuuup.

I like the individual characters, but the combined mode was mercifully killed.

Ugliest throw-away ROTF characters, they had a few lines of dialogue, and blown to bits.

This. They didn't combine in the movie and as far as I know the comics either. I don't get the obsession myself.

It's all about the tabs kids. Why are the there? What is their function? They seem to connect...must solve the riddle! Heck, I'm glad you guys aren't on the Higgs Boson forums...

Indeed, the appeal is in working out the complete function of the figures. They are nominally meant to combine, therefore we want to figure out how they do so.

acutally it was planned that they would comnbine in the movie
it was because of the writer striki
heres what could haave been different in rotf if the wirter strike never happened
it was a good movie but it couldve been better after looking at this

I don't see any way that a writers' strike would effect the abandoned combination abilities of toys. The movie, unlikely but sure. Not toys though.

Nemesis Primus, Your Elite-1 looks better than Hasbro's! Good work.

But Yeah I dunno how in the world they combine, but it always felt gimmicky to me. The weird tab connector things confound me. I guess you could have them make some kind of three wheeled monstrosity if you connected all the tabs.

If you ask me, the majority wanted to keep the combination gimmick unique to Devastator, so the Arcee combination was canned. Simple, but likely reason. The decision was probably made after the toys were designed.

I'm going to laugh when Hasbro does release the instructions online, as promised.

I'm also going to laugh when it's three robot modes pegged together.

We'll get the instructions, we just won't like the end result.

You have the full functionality of the figures in two modes. What you see is what was sold to you in theaters. My thinking is that they got so far along in design to get the two bikes designed, then the combining idea was scrapped for the movie. Meaning no matter what they did for a third bike, they weren't tied to making a third and final new mold. You're probably not ever getting a fully combining motorcycle monstrosity.

If I cared only for what was shown on-screen, I wouldn't have bought several non-movie RotF figures. The figures have functions not shown in the movie; therefore I intend to discover those functions.

Flux Convoy is correct.

Originally, there was to be a new mold for Elita-1, the final part of the puzzle.

However, the whole combination idea was scrapped, and the third mold will never see the light of day. So we get lumbered instead with a repaint to make up the numbers.

It's like buying a set of G1 Constructicons without a Long Haul, but instead of a Long Haul they give you a repaint of Mixmaster.

Without that last vital component the combination will not work.

Or a pair of G1 Bonecrushers, the result remains, a crippled Gesalt. Perhaps, if we petition some of the third party crafters we can properly fix this dilemma.

The overall idea would not likely generate the money ncessary for a 3rd party company to get involved with this. You can try and polish a turd, but the outcome is not usually desireable.

Ok, that's a good thought, and it would make the combining ability more special by way of being slightly more unique (Knows about PRime and JEtfire, ok?), but I still don't think that there would be a ton of influcence on that idea becuase of a writers strike.
