Vestigial parts in Transformers toys
- Motto: "'till All Are One"
I was playing around with Universe 2.0 Galvatron and noticed these weird mechanical feet in the threads that dont come into play in any mode. I looked it up and found that they were part of an abandoned third mode which was a walking tank (pictured below). I was wondering if there were any other cases of vestigial pieces left for abandoned modes or thigns of the sort? And I mean for post Beast Wars figures (I wouldnt count Diaclone seats or mutant heads since those were for other purposes outside the transformers brand proper).

It isn't really vestigial for Universe Vector Prime since the original release did have sounds activated by the Cyberkey. It was just unused in later releases due to costs.

Tm 2 have a multiple arm thing going on in some of the deluxes, most visible in optimus minor and the large three mega class (optimal optimus, Tiger hawk and Dragon Megatron) all have cockpits for what would if been a spark pilot but it was dropped for being too confusing. Tm 2 black Arachnia has vestigial remains of a vehicle mode via the thrusters she have that are hidden within her she'll and her free rolling wheels

I don't know if you'd judge this to count, but the AOE Evolution pack Energon Grimlock still has the Mega-Dinobot head. The point is that it's painted, as though there was going to be a Swoop/Strafe to combine with him.

A lot of early RoTF figures featured molded bits that were originally supposed to be gimmicks, but were scrapped and replaced with a single molded piece. Voyager Starscream, for instance, had hinges and cannons as separate parts in stock photos, for a retracting and deploying gimmick, that were molded into the arm in the final release. Sideways was to have a rotating sawblade in one arm, again it remains, but only as a static molded detail,

ROTF wheelie had hinges that served no purpose in his transformation process, but I never found out there purpose.

There was something about Animated Swoop's weapon having an abandoned gimmick. Pop-out flames or whatever. It's still there apart from the 'pop-out' bit.

Like how RID Scourge didn't have the electronics from when the toy was Optimus in G2. Wasn't sure if that sort of thing was worth mentioning, where some versions of a mold did use the not so vestigial stuff.

Your right, those arent vestigial. But what could be worth mentonning is how they get around those missing things. Like Vector Prime, the battery door is still visible on the nosecone, the screw has been replaced with a rivet.

The G1 firecons.
Flamefeather, Sparkstalker and Cindersaur all have vestigial moulded rubsign indents, even though they were released after the practise of putting rubsigns on toys was discontinued.

Not exactly a 'part' - but G1 Hotrod has sculpted knees that you will never see unless you unscrew the legs and pull them out
