Seriously the reason why people put up this kind of prices in ebay is that once in a while someone actually gets it, its like the seller is testing the market.

Some people are really that clueless.

Or, they attach some imaginary number to their things and get attached to them, and refuse to acknowledge they're not worth that much. Kinda like thinking your 1984 Optimus Prime is worth $800. #-o

I love auctions like this cuz they're always good for a laugh. You see items like this quite often, like MISB ROTF Voyagers for $49.99, etc.

Are they really that clueless, or are they just PRAYING that some sucker will actually bid on it? I'm guessing the latter...

Well, the seller is right about one thing:

Those "opyumus" Primes are quite rare.

That must have been that time during the '70s when Prime felt hands were unnecessary.

It's a bit of both, really. It comes up around here every now and again, but when people pay a lot for figures that aren't out yet but will be at retail in a few months, or prototypes, or what have you, there's always talk of "why does someone pay that much for something that will blah blah blah." Look at the Concept BB from 07, people were paying out the nose for them on eBay and then two months later they were everywhere.
Sometimes the notion arises that the 07 and 09 movies spark interest in TFs that had waned in the eye of the general public, and then people clean out the basement and find the old figures and try for massive prices on them because of the renewed interest, but sometimes it's just people being bizarre on the internet. I know that's hard to believe, but strange behavior sometimes brews online.
E.I.M.D, I was being sarcastic, not directed at you, so you know, no offense. I'm having an out of mind day, so none of this may be making sense or it may come across as rude and I don't mean it that way.
I didn't see the auction page, as it was taken down already, but I gather from posts that it was a G1 Prime in bad condition at a rediculous price?

No offense taken, my friend! Your response made sense to me! Also, I've seen many auctions like the ones you mentioned, where people pay crazy prices for unreleased figures. I'll just wait an extra month and get it at Wal-Mart!

When I see overpriced stuff on eBay like this, it makes me think that the guy's wife/mom, etc., told him to sell it, so he puts a crazy-high prce on it, then goes back and tells her later, "Nobody would buy it, sorry."

That's what I'd do.

How do you think you got that G2 Prime?

I have to admit that I almost did this in the past, but then thought better of it and chopped the crazy high price in half. Funny thing is with bidding it came pretty close to the crazy price, and I sold it anyway. 8-}

This is funny, but I feel less contempt for this dude than for toy scalpers. I'm sorry but I really hate the guy who gets in front of me on line cleaning out a fig at TRU he thinks is going to be popular (normally Optimus or Bee), a cart full of them. He HAS to charge crazy prices, because the idiot paid retail and he has to recover that loss. I think they hope that if scalpers all buy out every fig on the open market, they'll force people to buy their inflated prices.

Which is why I never buy new figs on Ebay. I'll hit up for an old one, like Machine Wars, but a new one...nu-huh. That's encouraging a very very irksome behavior I don't want to see any more of.

Cool. You never know who you're upsetting when you least intend it, you know. :D
But yeah, that makes no sense to me. In a month or two, any figure you see on eBay (reasonably speaking I mean. Obviously certain things don't count here) will be at retail. If your thing is getting them first or getting prototypes or whatever, awesome for you, but I get a hunch that most of the not yet releaseds' on eBay go to people who just can't wait. and I don't mean guys like Ryan who's running a website and does galleries of figures, I mean guys like me, who could wait but just dont.

I wait. I can wait all day. You know, I'm just saying.
