autobot from the ground up
Seeing your previous work ORD, I wouldn't be surprised when this thing turns out to be totally awesome.

Here are the latest updates

It is progressing ok but the arms are seeming a bit short in robot mode. I will wait for the chest and head to be done bfore deciding if this needs fixing. The hardest thing about the work now is considering the molding at the end. I cant make peices that are imposible to reproduce. After the main sections are done I plan to give more detail to the surfaces, I may do several diferent recessed sections where a assortment of different detail could be added in an interchangeable way. For example, the sholders have room for a removeable rocket cluster.

you are right about those hands. I can't be bothered to change them now. The hands can be fleshed out a bit in the sculpt. It is too time consuming to play with them over again in the model. As I said before those ones are just filler, the real ones will be more toyish. There is a cavity in the wing so bigger hands are possible, I just want to do it in a way that makes the arms look longer.

been working on the cab section. I still may try to blend the wing/sholder section into the cab section a bit more.

I want a smoother transition from the wing to the cab for the vehicle mode. The face will be next then maybe those hands. The parts all fit together good now but some work needs to be done on the "clicking" mechanisms for holding pose. I have considered just using bits from real toys for these but it would sorta defeat the purpose here (not to mention making reproduction costly).

Nah, I think once you get some proportionate hands on there it'll look fine.

Very cool the way you got him to transform. I could never imagine doing a figure this way. I agree with the others, bigger hands will make it look better.

that should be able to be fixed by making the wings (and thus arms) longer, and maybe put telescoping parts in the arm

I increased the size of the hands. This means the transformation will take up more room in the wing cavity - ie less room for the gun. I may have to leave the gun out now. I made a sort of hybrid head from cartoon bumblebee and toy bumble bee. Autocad really sucks at this kind of thing so you may have to use your imagination a bit when looking at it. in the end I will sculpt in "personality". the main thing for this model is that its almost ready to print the plans for building, ading the head/hands will not have much impact on the real work anyway. If I get time I will try ti figure out how to use maya so I can do an animation of the transformation.

I still need to do the Autobot symbol and some surface detailing along with coming up with a mechanism for the neck that accomidates the transformation.

Awe man, you're gonna have to leave the gun out of the transform? Maybe smaller hands wouldn't be so bad then.

Maybe you could stash the gun in the chest cavity or behind the head like BW Terrorsaur.

unfortunately the head needs to slide down a bit into the chest to transform so I cant put it there. I will try making the gun in two halves and puttin one half on each side . Perhaps he could have bombs instead of guns and they could go just about anywhere underneath in vehicle mode.

Just to clarify, when you say the wing-cavities, are you talking about the hip protection plates, or somewhere in the shoulders? (assumes the former.
In which case, What you said about making a gun in two pieces ala Beast Wars Rattrap (original) would be a good idea. I'd be happy if it were a small laser pistol, really.
