Our friend Jim Sorenson has made another update to his Disciples of Boltax blog, this time featuring a behind the scenes look at the soon to be released AllSpark Almanac II.
How time sneaks up on us! The AllSpark Almanac II is a mere twelve days away, and betwix now and then there is the juggernaut that is BotCon! So, without further ado, let's start with some previews for the upcoming Almanac.
I figured I'd start in an unusual direction; last year, the first preview images were tiny little snippets and sketches, designed to tease without giving too much away. This year, that'd be less effective; you all know approximately what the book will look like. Instead, how about some images that WON'T be in the book? Ideas and characters that we considered using but rejected for whatever reason: time, space, a better idea, etc.
To see these images along with detailed explanations, simply head over to Jim's blog at http://boltax.blogspot.com/

Going clockwise from top left I'd say Wheelie, Jetfire concept head, then Cup, then Mirage. I can see why they weren't used, because they are all 100% fail. I take that back, the Jetfire looks pretty cool actually but I think they decided to focus all the fail from this group into making Jetfire one of those rediculous twins, allowing them to fail even where they could have succeeded.
That last sentence is too long.
I'm glad the Mirage design wasn't used. He's one of my favorite characters and this makes him look like some kind of retardicon.
::EDIT::
Read the post and I was right. I would love to know what combination of drugs would lead one to think that Mirage ever looked like a frog.

Yeah, that Mirage image... what were they thinking??
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

It's kinda like getting excited to see deleted scenes of a movie - 90% of the time you realize pretty quickly why they weren't used.

...back in my day, you had one alt-mode. ONE! Articulation? why, if you had enough articulation to transform, you had plenty. And if you wanted more articulation, you know what you did about it? NOTHING. You transformed, stood there with your faceplate closed, and your optics sharp, just like everybody else who didn't have ball-jointed this, and swivel-jointed that. And when your were told to, you transformed and rolled out! ...And another thing...

These weren't cut from the book. These aren't deleted scenes. These are sketches from brainstorming sessions. Like notes. Most of the time they are on the backs of placemats and napkins from restaurants. We thought people might like to see the ideas we didn't go with.
Anyway, someone liked the KUP so here's the original drawing of him. http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l296/ ... UPface.jpg

Thanks for stopping by and explaining this, Bill. Good luck with the sales of the book!
