IMO,they look more like "bugle boy" socks. as the thighs are colored white & the lower legs are colored blue.
I think this pic of robot mode TFCC Metalhawk would make a great, "Ultimate caption contest" pic for next week. seibertron.com members can see the pic & leave funny comments about it.

or it should be called "Quanity over Quality".
IMHO,If getting 10+botcon convention figures creates this epic awfulness. then please go back to the TWO,maybe three botcon convention figures 3H use to offer.
Personally If I owned the botcon convention. I'd ask hasbro/takara for permission to release one or 2 new mold leader sized TF toy per botcon convention year as convention exclusives. Examples: fort max using the year 2005 cybertron metroplex toy mold, with a new head sculpt. Rodimus Prime using the year 2005 cybertron leader sized toy mold, with a new head sculpt. HFTD Leader sized starscream repainted in both Skywarp & thundercracker colors with a 100% new G-1 styled seeker robot head sculpt.

-Drone can be upgraded with a transformable bot mode.
-Missile launchers can be upgraded with interactivity to "drone" (to beef it up while not stowed).
-Bot mode has a torso cavity for the transformable "drone" - allowing storage in both modes
I pulled out my Thunderclash to investigate this before I could respond
-Agreed, I never really liked Thunderclash's/Metalhawk's guns. Too big an unwieldly IMO
-I can see it, but I don't see why
-Depends on what they come up with I suppose. I think the drone is pretty much useless on the Deluxe figure, with very narrow upgrade possibilites. If this was a voyager-scale toy though...
-There really isn't any space in that cavity. Most of it is filled in with the waist, and what is there isn't enough to hold anything larger that a penny.

That doesn't surprise me one bit

No,it was one of my favorite 1988 TF G-1 toys. I also love the generations thunderwing toy. I kinda wish it was voyager sized instead of deluxe sized.
IMHO,The only real winner in the TFCC 2012 botcon set is SG Tracks as it's a highly desired road rage homage in generations form. IMO,all the others are more miss than hit.

I got rid of the drone from the generations thunderwing toy. I use Armada Skywarp's minicon named Thunderclash,as a decent stand in to replace the 1988 Thunderwing basic sized inner robot. minicon thunderclash can fold his wings & arm missles upward in jet mode & hold on to the front jet nose cone of thunderwing in jet mode very securely/tight. it can also plug into the same jet nose cone in robot mode & be used as a weapons back pack mode in the generations thunderwing robot mode.

And that's pretty bad ass, dinogeist. Armada Skywarp's minicon, you say... I'll give it a shot.

On the other hand, I do remember after the 2007 set came out how pissed people were that they thought they would never get a mass retail TC, Dirge, Thrust, etc. and many were saying 'con exclusives should be outta the way niche figures, well, there you go,Team America Metalhawk. Come to think of it, the mold for 'con Overlord is a pretender homage with a robotic head stuck on it, hmmmm.....

I thought that was Actionmasters? Or was it Headmasters? Or Rodimus Prime? Everybody has their own "[insert last toy they got] that killed G1." I loved Pretenders. You know what killed G1 for me? Cancellation. I watched every episode until they stopped. Got the toys until they stopped. Read the comic until they stopped. Then did it all again with G2. And Beast Wars into Machine (both Wars and Beasts) and RiD. I finally stopped watching the show with Armada. So I guess for me it was the Unicron Trilogy and Dreamwave that practically killed Transformers. And Hasbro (and a lot of people on this site) would disagree with me. Well, except for the Dreamwave thing. I loved those comics so much but, man, f*** Pat Lee.
Pat Lee practically killed Transformers comics. IDW took some getting used to but at least their still going strong!

Yeah, after I wrote it I thought about all the different ways the franchise has gone wrong on different levels for different people, there are times I have been drawn back in and times when they have pushed me away, I fell off on the pretenders, tho after seeing Masterforce in my adulthood, I may have had a lil more love for the pretenders back in the day had Hasbro bothered to adapt it, loved BW, hated the U trilogy(save the Japanese Galaxy Force), I'm kinda iffy on the movies, loved Animated, but am on the fence about Prime. I totally agree with you about those DW books tho, I read like War Within but that was it. All their G1 stuff was garbage IMHO. Horse s**t > Pat "douche bag" Lee.
Shame he shares a last name with the most bad @$$ martial artists to ever live.
