REally? I always thought the automorph felt like it put a lot of pressure on it.
The issue here is force and placement of said force. Mileage may vary, but our fingers and hands can be pretty strong (I know mine are), and putting a lot of force on a small sturdy part causes stress and eventually breakage.
What Wreck-Gar's automorph does is distribute the total force among three key joints: the ankle and the two handlebars. This lessens the stress on the two places. Simple physics, really
It's not a total failsafe however, as the nubs for the connection are pretty strong, and thus overcompensation is pretty likely.
