cashing in on kotoys via ebay

Postby Swindle01 » Thu Jan 12, 2012 7:38 am

Does anyone else find this rather low of the tf community? ive noticed ALOT of ko transformers on ebay recently that you could only get on kotoys being sold on ebay for a retarded amount of money...

Ive seen the ko dino cassettes on there sell for as much as £120 for a pair! this was 2 figures which cost what? $40 for a set? now being sold on ebay and making £120???

Theres some guy trying to sell kold gold henkei convoy for £50 right now on there as well....a figure which alone would have cost you $15 max. Theres wonderfest convoy (kotoys) trying to be sold for £70 and i even saw a clear henkei convoy sell for £80! a figure which costed $19?

Im just finding this abit low of the tf community essentially cashing in on kotoys problems. The people in the auctions mention the items are kos but i just dont understand how people would pay £120 for 2 ko dino cassettes they KNOW should only cost $40 max.
I guess well just have to see if kotoys opens under a new name or something but i guess in the mean time were gona see alot of this kinda thing

Weapon: Indepentently Targetable Particle Beam Cannons
I know how you feel DooD...unfortunately this has nothing to do with KO toys going out of business...its basic human greed and people taking advantage of a situation.

For instance, right now I am trying to flesh out my classics collection with a version of both Bumblebee and Cliffjumper. Well, the Classic Deluxe CJ is not available retail right now (most are sold out awaiting a second shipment), and what is listed retail as a $35-40 toy is going on ebay for upwards of $80-90. People simply taking advantage of a lack of supply to gouge prices in the face of consumer demand.

Although the classic Deluxe BB is available retail, I am really jonesing for the Takara C-02 version (I often favor the paint schemes of Takara versions)...which is currently NOT available retail until a re-stock...and guess what? Another $50 retail toy being ebayed for over $100.

Is it immoral? Cant really say so...since manipulating supply vs. demand is the basis of economics...but it doesnt make it any less of a D!3& -head move.

What these people fail to realize is, had they put thier offerings up for a reasonable price (say, even a 5-10 dollar profit over normal retail), I would have already hit the "buy now" button...but they think they can gouge to their heart's content like they have some kind of monopoly on the market...and a few months from now when a second run is released for re-stock, thier greed will have all been for naught.

FWIW,Selling any type of KO/Bootlegs/fakes/un-liscensed TF toys/media on ebay is ILLEGIAL. So you have the option of reporting these ebay sellers to ebay.

The original price for those was 50 - 60 dollars, the heavily discount "going out of business" prices where just that, low prices to move as much stock as possible before they had to shut down.

Thing is, not everyone knows that the original price for those was 40, for many those auctions will be the first and only time they heard of the existence of those figures.

Also, the prices are so hight due to, well the same factors you hate on Hasbro, these items have become rare and hard to find so the prices go up.

I find the entire KOToys vendetta "low of the TF community".

KOToys sold custom molded bootleg figures that were specifically target towards our community as unofficial figures only to be pitch-fork-and-torched into obscurity. I'm glad I didn't sever my ties with them as they are just two ordinary transformers fanatics with savvy business sense and the connections to provide a product.

As far as people putting them up on eBay, do you condemn the same people that flip "official" toy convention sets or 3rd party out-of-production kits? If it offends you, why else would you key in the product on the eBay search other than to take advantage of low prices for yourself?

This isn't intended to be an offensive post, it's just that "cashing in" has been the theme of collecting these days. It used to be about: "Wow, other people love these toys still, and look how many of us there are; I actually belong here with these geeks." I really wish it could be more of a community where conventions were really thought of as gatherings of the varied personalities and social backgrounds of this fandom. Instead it's about bashing repaints and cashing in.

I'm going to the 80's Toys Expo and I hope to turn strangers with similar personalities to my own into homies, maybe check out the galleries with my hoe train and recruit more bench players... Oughtta-be-ah-blast.

I'm pretty sure the vendetta some people have against KOToys is more about transactions gone very wrong more than anything they sold. I haven't had anything but decent dealings with KOToys, but the stories other people tell are almost unbelievable.

Although I do understand the nut some have against KOs. I don't buy G1 much and don't sell at all, but if I did I wouldn't be the biggest fan of the "high quality" KOs out there.

My vendetta started with,
KOToys lashing out at this guy who made a review of their gold Convoy KO, pointing out that the chrome was crap and that the plastic was brittle
Increased when "fanboys" started praising them for releasing expensive KOs of toys that where much cheaper
increased even more when the owner made multiple accounts over here (he already had one) which he used to personally attack everyone who didn't offer to give him oral sex, yes he even attacked people who defended him and his store, you wouldn't believe the posts I deleted.
increased even more when he personally insulted me for reporting on an upcoming KO, with our standard "Buyer beware" tag-line, which we have to use when reporting on replica KOs
And was finally cemented by all the fanboys who constantly kissed that store's ass and praised its inflated prices while piling mountains of hate on Hasbro, Takara, etc whom they ripped off.

So yes, I'm glad that store is gone, which is hilarious if you consider the amount of times I defended it and it's owner, and gave them free advertising for their store.

Sorry, I'm just sort of weary of every time someone brings up some toy from CHMS or KOtoys having to wade through tons of people complaining about the store owner.

I know that feeling, that's teh same one I get whenever I read a topic about people who post stories of how they finally got their "holy-grail" just to be told that they've been ripped off and should have gotten the KO from KOToys instead.

Also, I don't have anything against KOs in general, I hate KOToys for the reasons I posted and not because they KO stuff.

Also this topic wasn't about a toy in general, it was about complaining about the secondary marked daring to do with KOToys stuff what it does with everything else.

It seems fair considering this is just another thread about KOToys and complaining about the price of KOs.

I'm kinda sick of KoToys complaining. Is this really the new KOToys forum? "High Quality" KOs were ALWAYS overpriced, guys! And now that the #1 supplier here is gone they're going to go up in price. ESPECIALLY on ebay. This is a free economy ... suck it up.

KOToys is NOT your only supplier of KOs. They're just not. Others are even selling KOs at their original (really high) price, so ... buy what you want now while you can.

FWIW,those ebay sellers selling those KOtoys.com toys on ebay had to pay those extremly high OVERSEAS SHIPPING PRICES.

It's worth a mention that when you buy from these ebay sellers, who are selling those kotoys.com stuff, you might get cheaper usa shipping prices. un-less certain sellers try to make profit off shipping fees.

you can't expect ebay sellers not to want to get re-imbursed for shipping fees they laid out to get these items.

these ebay scalpers are not your family members nor close friends. ofcause their gonna charge a bit extra. because they deserve to get re-imbursed for the shipping fees, tax, gas, time & anything else.

no one is forcing anyone to buy anything. don't like, then don't buy.

I also am puzzled at all the kotoys.com attacks. if it's okay for botcon asttendees to make profits off botcon/club toys. then it's okay for kotoys.com buyers to make profits off ebay too via ebay buyers.

hold on im alittle confused here - overpriced shipping - .........wtf are you talking about? i had clear henkei convoy+dia convoy+henkei wildrider+botcon shattered glass hotrod+SG prime+diy hotrod kit all shipped to me in the uk via normal shipping method and all that lost cost me $20 for postage

so whats this HIGH shipping cost your banging on about? even buying a single figure from kotoys only cost $10 to send. so basically if you do the math - gold kold convoy $15+10 postage thats still a HELL of alot less than £50 that the arsehole on ebay is trying to scam people out of.

Also no offense but Dead Metal everyone knows you hate tom of kotoys and its been said and seen a thousand times. Ok you dont like tom but the fact is he did give fans an option, just because you didnt like him doesnt mean you should always go around bad mouthing him. Christ i think brian who owns 2005boards is a royal dick for screwing me over when we both agreed on somert but you dont see me bad mouthing 2005 all the time. Tom was not perfect and i know he was abit bonkers at times (i talked to him everyday for over 2 years) but i really really feel sad for tom because kotoys WAS his business. He left his job to focus 100% on kotoys and was aiming to bring us stuff like the dino cassettes and more but sadly now looks like were all screwed.

I just find it alittle low that some people are selling kotoys stuff on ebay for stupid prices. Everyone here knows how much i want ko henkei wonderfest convoy and the only guy who has 1 for sale is some jerk on ebay asking £60+ for it with shipping. Sorry but its just TOO bitter a pill to swallow.

As been said if these guys would make the prices reasonable i to would have hit the 'buy it now' button.

Just seems like 2012 is a bad year to be a transformers fan who collects only classics+ko classics stuff thanks to hasbro just constantly releasing crappy movie figures that DO feel like there made of ko plastic quality

Now here's some quick math for you. Yes, the cassettes were only $40. However, EMS shipping from China to the central US was $30+ dollars.

No one is forcing a gun to anyone's head. These are great KO's of EXTREMELY RARE toys; toys which often top $700 individually for the originals. For those who want to display these cassettes but haven't won the lotto recently, it's a great deal.

The price is set by the market. If no one wants them at those prices, no one would buy them. 'nuff said.

Actually, I will say one more thing, these KO's are freaking awesome!

I live in America,USA,not in europe.

I have personally dealt with both KOtoy.com & CHMS. for those of us who live in america, usa. the shipping fees were really exspensive. the waiting time to receive a package was well over 2 to 3 weeks.

So yes,in this case. buying from ebay usa sellers who bought from kotoys.com/CHMS. will save american buyers buying from american sellers of kotoys/chms products money in shipping fees & we'll get our items in under 2 to 4 days.

Maybe if you lived where I lived, you'd have the right to accuse me of lying. But you don't, so I suggest you stop. Personally, I don't care what you believe, that is what shipping cost me.

Did you choose EMS shipping, or the slower shipping? I chose EMS because it was the fastest shipping available. Obviously depending on the shipping method and your ACTUAL LOCATION, shipping prices will vary. Please keep that in mind before you decide to be rude to someone.

Also, for those who don't have this set, I suggest you get it. It's worth the price:

I don't see anything low with prices on merchendice going up once KOToys is down. It's called capitalism. Why should KOs be exempt from the laws of supply and demand.

The only thing low in the community would be people passing KOs bought from KOToys as the genuine article.
