Why is the Grand Maximus sword so expensive? It seems more expensive than the toy.
Because he was only released with two toys: the Japanese Fortress Maximus (it was deemed too dangerous for US kids) and Grand Maximus. Brave Maximus never got one, though it got a new hilt for God Fire Convoy / Omega Prime to use.
So basically, it's a Japan-only accessory, in demand and rare. Those factors made the price skyrocket in non-Japan territories.

You mean Car Robots/Rid? Yeah, the sword is used in the final battle against Galvatron/Devil Gigatron. All the kids of the world get online and transmit their power to Fort Max, which enables him to teleport the sword to Omega Prime, who's dueling Galvy/DG in the center of the Earth.
In my opinion, it's a pretty crappy fight.
