I know I risk sounding helpless by asking this because I can google it. BUT how many Optimus Primes are in the Classics/universe line? What do they look like? Not counting the horrible special edition. I'm using my phone and all I'm getting when I google it is some reissue and anniversary pics.

I gotta agree with Rabbit-man here. Voyager not only looks good, he can pose almost like a Revoltech.

Just noticed someone asked what I was looking for. I saw a review of a prime before I started TF collecting and from what I remember he was much like animated primes truck mode. They did a bee with jetski review alon with it. I think he had a removable piece off of the top of his cab too. Is that the voyager one?

The Voyager one has a removable piece on top, yeah. It turns into a weapon.

Well, another reason to get the Voyager Classic Optimus Prime figure is that is taller than the others, despite being on the small size for a voyager. He seems like a mega class figure to me.
Also the best reason to get him: Third Party add-on kits. This guy has a insane number of kits out there. I don't have them all but the best one to get, is the Fanproject G3 Trailer. it is a faithful update of the original one, it is in scale with all your classic figures. It looks great, you can make it "disappear", comes with a roller, it will be a new base for your TF's, which hasn't happen in god knows how long, and finally, it comes load with additional weapons for the rest of your classic figures. My Mirage has his rocket now, as does Sideswipe. Bumblebee is no longer unarmed. Hound has his holo-projector now, and Grimlock now has a real sword. I think BBTS has them for under 100 dollars. I love having it with my classic figures.
Also, there's the Powered Convoy armor set, which gives your Optimus FP's Ultra Magnus armor in Diaclone Convoy colors, and it can hook up the the G3 Trailer. Think of it as a Powermaster Prime upgrade for Classic Optimus.
Also, a while back there was a weapons kit that was specifically meant to go with Classic, Movie, and Alternity Prime, but they can be fitted to just your classic Optmius. It's bascially Prime's gun, but it can light up. One blaster is huge, and the other is small, but they're worth it.

Re: Classics/universe Prime

I did a video review a while back to compare the different variations of the voyager mold, and I can say without a doubt that it's my favorite Prime in pretty much all respects. However I am aware that there are a number of issues a lot of people have with the mold, mostly regarding what is considered kibble in one mode or another.
Listing off the common trouble points:
arm flaps
back grill
knee pads
wind vane gun
smokestack gun
and even the head sometimes
so basically everything and anything that doesn't make him look more geewun...
If any of these things bothers you, or makes you think he's not quite the best representation of Optimus Prime you are insane, but nevertheless you are free to pass it up... but you'll still be insane.

Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

The removable piece is called a wind vane. It sits on top of the truck in truck mode, and can remain there for robot mode, or transform into a rifle. He also has the removable smokestacks that turn into a gun. They can be affixed to the wind vane in robot mode as well, to simulate an over the shoulder gun rack.
Not sure what issues anybody can have with the knee-pads though.

This has defiantly turned into a voyager prime thread and I've got one last question. Does his iconic G1 gun exist in any form that can fit into his hand?

I know of a Dollar Store little KO Prime that came with a G1 influenced rifle and battle-axe. You've read about the 3rd party gun kit. I think one of the build options looks like his G1 rifle.
I like to use my old Powermaster Prime black rifles since they fit perfectly into his hands. I also made a trailer hitch with some LEGO pieces so he can sort of haul the Powermaster trailer. I know it's not G1 per say, but the only thing cooler than dual rifles is dual swords. That's why I picked up Battleblades Prime.
If you have Powermaster Prime, you might like Classics voyager Prime best with those two rifles, especially because you can swivel the doors on his forearms up to act as blast shields to prevent his rifles from being shot out of his hands.

Re: Classics/universe Prime

I'm just going by what I've seen done in terms of customizations. People remove all sorts of things from the voyager prime mold to better suit their individual tastes, and I'm fairly certain I've seen knee pad removal at least once or twice. A lot of what I've seen comes from the Radicons board over on TFW2005 if you wanna look these things up yourself. I know it's up to the discretion of the individual collector to modify their figures as they see fit, but it still saddens me that there are a lot of people who can't accept the voyager prime as is, without add-ons or mods.
As for the rifle, despite my previously stated trepidations about add-ons, I think there has been at least one upgrade set out there that had his rifle. I dunno if you can still find it any more, but I figured I'll throw it out there. Back to the Radicons, I've seen someone who did both a rifle and special smokestacks for the mold that I think is buy-able through Shapeways.

There are several options for his rifle out there. Several accessory packs have been made. And also some options within Hasbro products. I'll list a few:
1. An actual G1 Gun. Yes, he can hold one, the peg fits in his hand.
2. The gun from the BTS-03 Matrix of Leadership set. Which would also provide him with a usable jetpack. Sadly he won't be able to hold the actual Matrix. Its nice set for a very decent price. Only 19.99 for 2 Rifles(if you get it at BBTS), an Axe, a Jetpack, a Matrix, and a set of articulated fists for G1 Prime.
3. Any 5mm gun that you think resembles G1. That means pretty much any weapon from Armada on, bar a few exceptions.
4. Armada Prime's Rifle is a pretty good replacement. As its large, imposing and resembles the G1 rifle quite a bit.
5. There's a set of rifles with light up features from TFC Toys. TFC-005 Gear of War 2 Accessory Set Comes with several guns one of which is Prime's Rifle.
6. TF MP EX-002R Battle Rollar set. Also comes with a Light up Prime rifle.
