its obvious to me that the movie team geared this to a new generation, but Im 15 and know quite a bit. I was thinking that the wreckage we see to be the Fallen's base, is not earth, and clearly not Cybertron, so is it Charr? My point is that Bay could have slipped the name of where they were into the convo, and Charr seems to fit for us diehards.

they were onboard the ship called the nemesis , its in the prequal movie comic

Hmm. . . 15 year old expert? My original issue G1 figures have been around longer than you. Plus, it's a planet or moon right in the vicinity of Saturn. The Nemesis is the 'Cons spaceship, catch up on some more history.

It was the wreckage of the Decepticon ship Nemesis on one of Saturn's moons.

The Nemesis has been name of the Decepticons War ship ever since Beast wars finnally gave it a name. Animated used this name for Megatrons flagship as well. Its not surprise they named it that in the movie as well. I think most fans assumed it even as I saw people say the scenes on the nemesis, as I imediately knew what they were talking about. I didnt see it was offically called that even after the fact. Its been one of those things that has remained since it got added, like sparks and what not heh. (beast wars has done wonders for transformers mythos.)

but I thought Bay couldn't understand why'd they need ships?

eitherway, I figured it was the Nemisis, or at least an unnamed ship

Is it ever really established in the movie that it's a ship at all?

I see Megatron zoom off into space, fly to a moon on Saturn, then enter... a tangle of metal that, inside, looks like they pitched a tent with Spiderman's Venom. No established any kind of means to drive the ship, no wheel or interface, no computers (I didn't spot any)... Nothing really that says "ITS A SPACESHIP!"

Within the movie, and excluding all external media, is there much to suggest what it was? And to the average audience, would it really occur straight away to them that it was one of Saturns moons and not just some random planet?

I don't know, on my viewing, it seemed like any planet. And it seemed like just a random tangle of metal as opposed to a ship. After a moment I sort of went "... Is that supposed to be the Nemesis?"

-I don't have the comics
-And i wish they could all just jump into the air and fly like in G1
