Devastator VS Devastator

Postby decepta-scott » Thu Jul 07, 2011 7:55 am

WOW!! With two third party Devaststors out there both of which look friggin AMAZING
which (if any) are you guys going to get and why? Make toy, or hercules?
I couldnt realy see to much of a diffirence between the two. Ofcourse, the make toy version is bluring out the individual bots so you cant tell what they look like so that may hinder a decision.
I could still see enogh to tell they look good. I know what the going rate is for herc, but is there any word on the make toy price?
Take care all!

I think I'm gonna stick to getting the $600 transformer. Yeah, seriously. Devestator is, by far, my favorite combiner and the bots are actually all at a decent scale for construction vehicles. And I dig that. Which isn't to put down Maketoy's efforts - their product looks amazing. But the sheer size of Hercules, as well as what appears to be decent articulation, makes him worthy of all the awe the G1 cartoon heaped on him.

I'm not a G1 purist ... they can look kinda different; about as different as Classics Prime is to G1 Prime. So that's not really in Maketoy's favor in this battle (although I wouldn't mind a visored head option for Hercules). For me it's about size and awesomeness.

1. Word around the campfire is Fansproject is "backing them". Note- I use this term lightly, though, in case I'm wrong.
2. Detail- Devastator from these guys looks more G1 faithful, and the detail I can tell from the singles pics looks more intricate.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not gonna knock TFC for their workmanship. I believe they did a great job, too, but something was telling me not to go with them and I think this was it..........

I've made the commitment to purchase TFC's version by preordering Exgraver. Thankfully, we now have prospective release dates for the remaining figures. If a figure or two get held back from production going off this schedule, it will just make purchasing a bit easier for me (more time to recover funds).

Purchasing MakeToy's version will be based on price and timing of their release(s). While it would be GREAT to purchase all figures at once so you can actually enjoy the entire Devy experience, it would also be a financial strain on most. However, I am interested in it.

I purchased Exgraver too, I would really love a gargantuan combiner, and Devastator is the perfect one for that. I am very concerned about having not seen a Bonecrusher or Mixmaster from TFC, and I want to know if it will have the purple chest wing or go for the IDW 'naked' look. Considering the gaps in the back of their Hook, I really hope there is a chest wing.

The Maketoys version looks really nice, I am a bit concerned about some of the individual robot modes though. I like the characters of the Constructicons so all the modes matter to me.

I really hope TFC steps up and wows us with a complete Devastator soon. We need to know what we are buying into here with Exgraver. From what I have seen on the boards, preorders for Exgraver are being dropped in large numbers.

This is one of the reasons I'm not canceling my Exgraver pre-order. The blurred images of the individual Maketoy constructicons (based mostly on silhouettes and shapes) look a bit unappealing to me compared to what TFC has shown so far.

It's really quite simple for me. I'm not prepared to spend over 300.00 for any toy... N-E TOY. If MakeToy cannot deliver at that price point - it'll sting, but I can live without it. After all, I got a FP Colossus that can wield a shotgun, have RTS Legends Starscream perched on his shoulder, and aim dual over the shoulder cannons forward or backward or both - all while while flipping you the bird, bitches  . If you never appreciate what you have presently, you'll always want what you can't have. I got the combiner I wanted.

I dont think they did all that great a job of bluring out the individual cons. I could see em just fine and they looked good to me. At least we know for sure they have made all six with the make toy version.
I like the constructicons individually Too not just their devastator mode so I want them to look great individually as well as combined.
Plus, Im betting make toy goes under 600 to entice folks to roll with their bots. Im going to have to go with the make toy version.
Correct me if Im wrong but arent the make toy cons 5"? That puts em right into scale with the rest of my collection.
Finally he looks friggen SWEET standin next to bruticus. Gonna hafta get him as well........... :CON:

I only care about ultimately thing ultimately: will it fit in with Classics? Yes, Maketoys will. No, TFClub won't. Simple as that. I have upgraded both Bruticus and Superion (in Superion's case more that most) and I don't want a Combiner in canon came first to be larger than what came after. I can understand that Superion would be leaner that Bruticus but to have Devastator stand over them both like Kong just doesn't do it for me.

And for all everyone talks about the fist stowing away in Exgraver's altmode but seem to gloss over the fact the in botmode you still have a pile of parts including A GIANT FREAKING HAND. People seem to claim its not a partsformer when it most certainly is. Hell, in altmode he literally is holding his vehicle cab in his hand.

Never liked the Hercules and I never liked that it seemed to be the only option and it cost as much a a sh!tty used car. Now we have an other (and in my opinion, better) option.

This may end up being make or break for one of these companies.

MakeToy's "connection" to FP is a big factor for me too, I love FP stuff and their Bruticus Upgrade is the best looking TF ever outside of the MP's so I want my Devy to kind of fit in with that scale - this one seems to.

Sorry Herc...if you weren't so damn expensive I'd get both....

It's funny that the automatic assumption is MT's is going to be like half the price... I mean, it's possible...but who knows? I think it's safe to assume it won't be any more...but then again RK was only charging $77. Who knows how much more the other scams will charge...especially if they're trying to make up the cost of all the canceled TFC orders.

With RK you have to pay for the item at the time of preordering so they can't charge the people who already paid for it more and if they were to raise the price, well, that's the exact reason all the preorders would be stopping. Places like BBTS aren't going to raise their prices based on another product being better received, they'd just try to order more of the better one. I look at it this way, with MT's Giant coming Project Deva will no longer be the instant sell out that it originally was. That means that those who want it later will still be able to order it. It's easier to save $300 in 6 months than it is to save $100 every two months for 6 months. Sounds weird I know but it's true. And this way, Project Deva will be around long enough for at least Exgraver to go on clearance so that might actually help the fans in the long run.

I was saying they could charge more than they woulda otherwise for MT's to make up for all the canceled Exgravers.

Oh, I thought you meant it the other way around. Generally, they don't change the price of one item one way or the other do to anything but supply or demand. The success or failure of other items don't factor into it.

Right, but most of the time another item doesn't directly impact another's lack of success. And I don't know that that would actually happen, just wild speculation...but we still don't know how much they'll charge for MT's Dev.

Based on MT's Devastator's size compared to Bruticus and their connection to FP, I wouldn't expect the individual figures to cost any more than $50-55 each.

Has anyone ever bought anything off of Taobao? When I click on Exgraver on the TFC website it takes me to a Taobao page, with a buy it now of 30 (whatever currency it is)... is that good? bad? I am just curious what their domestic price is for Exgraver.

MT Giant all the way!. i was also on the fence with the tfclub, but something about it didn't seem very devy to me and also the fact that we haven't seen the other figures makes it difficult to invest 600+ with shipping on this guy. What really sold me the most was the pic with bruticus on how in size with classic combiners he is and also how very G1 he looks, very bad ass. Hasbro should buy this from them and make it official. Im sure the prices wont be as bad as tfclub either, i just hope they with give us giant in one full swing.

Mine is quite simple. If I am spending $600 on a could-be-bigger-than-Unicron combiner, my wife will kill me. Simple as that, she will kill me. So TFC already crossed out even though theirs look so awesome. Now to Maketoys, it looks very nice too and the size is at my wife's acceptance (smaller than Unicron) but I also have to see how much they cost. If still too high (haven't set my budget yet), I don't want to cause family trouble but drop him too and cross all my fingers to hope Hasbro will have one......

I had the opposite, I told my girlfriend that it was too expensive, and I couldn't make the commitment. She forced me into preordering Exgraver and she wants two Long Hauls when it comes out so she can have one separate for herself!
