Having not seen any official commentary from Hasbro, Megatron being a boar demon might be loosely inspired by the pig creature Cho Hakkai from Journey to the West, who was likewise a loose inspiration for Ganon from The Legend of Zelda.

Megatron missing out on weapon accessories is a shame. The figure is bad ass. Definitely NOT boaring...

Definitely a flying squirrel since tanuki flew by stretching their massive scrotum out and gliding rather than a membrane of skin connecting the limbs. The BWN tanuki was Heinrad.

Anime has taught me far too much about tanuki balls.

Side tangent, when it comes to names, I'm on team HeinLAD. This lines up with previous BWII names like Tasmania Kid and Scissor Boy.

But he's not a young character like those two are, though.

Lad can also be used for younger men, not just boys. As a new recruit it seems like a fitting moniker.

Google says his name is based on Heimdall which is pretty funny if true.

Oh, there will be... a new Optimus/Starscream and Megatron/Bumblebee one year, then a different Optimus/Starscream and Megatron Bumblebee the next year, then another Optimus/Starscream and Megatron/Bumblebee the next, and so on and so forth. That's all we're getting under this "Transformers: Timelines" label.
