These toys are made,it seems to me, without playability in mind. Unlike G1, which was actually meant to be played with and abused by kids, which the reissues are not. Therefore being of lesser quality IMO.
I would recommend staying away from reissues and hunt for the originals.
The real deal is far more satisfying to own from a collector point of view and for nostalgic reasons. Plus they're better quality even 2o plus years later..least that's the way it is for me.

I recommend the complete opposite.

Nothing like taking a minty-fresh toy out of the box and applying the stickers yourself.

Very theraputic IMO.

I think that's a little overly dramatic saying that every single re-issue is of lesser quality than the originals?

I have a TRU Thundercracker that's just as nice heavy and well made as what's left of my original Thundercracker.

While I agree there may be some QC issues around, its normal in molds that are 25 years old. You seriously don't expect molds to last that long without at least some degradation?

Of course Originals have better quality, the molds were new when they were made, also most Originals you buy that are in good shape are owned by collectors, who hardly play roughly with them and take good care of them. Surely you aren't going to find G1 originals that kids who owned them didn't take care of because of course they are not there.

And saying go for the originals is like saying yeah throw your money away. When an original set of Seacons will set you back 300 bucks or more, and a re-issue is only 69.99 I think a bit of leeway in QC can be expected and forgiven specially considering the age of the molds. Even newer figures suffer from it. When a mold gets enough repaints degradation is expected.

At least for me my nostalgia is not worth 300 bucks. 69.99 is a far better chance to own a piece of my childhood.

And trust me, Takara's Encore Re-issues have far better quality than Hasbro's. Encore 01 Convoy is fantastic in my opinion, and instead of being 400 bucks of an original it was only 69.99 when I bought it. Yes Takara had some more noticeable QC issues with Bruticus, but that particular mold has seen more releases than any other G1 figure some degradaton was expected.

That's not to say you should not buy originals, if you can find one in good shape for a decent price, by all means, but shunning away from all re-issues is just overly dramatic in my opinion.

Also when buying an original you tend to be much more careful with it, than a re-issue since its "new".

From the 19 molds Takara has re-issued in its Encore Line, the only complaints I've heard are for Bruticus, not even the excessively re-issued Soundblaster got many QC complaints.

Although i'm a bit of a hypocrite cause i did buy me a Piranacon set that should be in the mail as we speak and i'm SUPER pumped about it!! yes....the original is way too expensive and he did need to get reissued! Just so the average joe can have one and enjoy.
So it boils down to personal preference i guess and if ya got the cash to shell for the originals. Which some times i do and sometimes i don't.
I just prefer vintage.

To each their own. I happen to like reissues, especially if they come with extra. Haven't had any real QC problems with them at all and I've got plenty. Were you speaking from experience?

I go both ways

I get reissue where I can and I am happy with that and I get vintage where I can or where I have too.

I didn't realize all the little stupid differences there are(knew there were some), so this thread is actually pretty good for info so far.
