Well they aren't quite as articulate as the FP figures seem personally the energon molds aren't bad.
IMO
The Barricade/Heatwave/Onslaught mold is nice, as mentioned before his head is too different that G1 Onslaught but you can do way more with him. Combiner wise I find it the most stable of the torso molds.
The Tank mold, I find a bit flimsy, and he does have kibble, but it hangs well. Beyond that his robot mode is decent, but I personally don't care for his vehicle mode.
The Choppers are one of the nicer energon combiner molds, solid in both modes, makes a great leg but suffers as an arm, however the FP set will correct this.
If FP remakes all of them it will look great, but with the two they are doing, the existing pieces will still make an impresive figure

Does this mean that they'll be spreading this out over 2 sets?

Crossfire 2 with the add-ons, and that sweet sniper rifle.
C2 Set A- with "Blast-off"
C2 Set B- with "Swindle"
This one won't be cheap, but damn it looks like it will be worth it.
Hasbro said the magic barrier for third party figures/add-ons is $100 dollars. By breaking this set up (if that's what's happening here), FP is steering clear of the eye of Hasbro/Takara.

Get used to that.

I have to disagree with this. I think it's the other way around.
As an arm, the thing stays together without pressure and creates a 5-finger hand.
As a leg, the figure becomes balanced on the energon piece which by virute of the pose required, the joint, and the molding becomes unstable.
You either put the small toe side on the front, where it is slightly more stable (and wrong by the transformation) and looks horrible, or you put the small toe side on the back and completely compromise stability. I really dislike the helicopter leg config.
