Feel free to discuss anything about any of the thousands of Transformer toys here. Anything from Generation 1 all the way to the soon to be released, the never to be released or the hope to be released is fair game! Want to show off your stuff? Please post your's and see others in the Transformers Collections Forum.

I bought Snowcat(black repaint version) a few years back--thought his alt mode looked cool. Bot mode? He reminds me a little too much of a robotic ninja who's been frequenting the energon sushi bar too much.

Using him as a joke display, I put him next to the snack jar in the kitche . And sometimes when I go to the kitchen to get a glass of water at night, I could've sworn I heard someone say, "Yokata na! Motto tabette gozaru!"

I didn't think we'd get the female characters so I was pleasantly surprised. I'm still waiting for the mysterious will-there-wont-there-be third character that may or may not create a combined bot. I've been buried under several other things so I'm just now catching up with Transformers stuff.

Apparently Takara / Hasbro have no love for Decepticon toys, just look at the amount of Decepticons that get made into Henkei or reissued. I'm still hoping for a Trypticon or a Scorponok reissue. :-?

That's traditional marketing strategy. Kids (and most adult collectors) usually root for the good guys, which means they'll be more inclined to buy Autobots than Decepticons.

BTW, ditto about Trypticon. And Metroplex; that one's been my holy grail for years. I don't care if it's a Henkei/Classics re-imagination or an Encore.

Sad fact is that Has/Tak doesn't seem likely to produce Supreme class figures for characters that don't appear on movies or animated series'. They probably fear that, given the price point of supreme class figures coupled by the lack of publicity, the toys might make prove to be unappealing to kids (whom Hasbro openly admits is their primary market).

I don't get where the marketing strategy of making different repaints of good characters come from. (i.e. different versions of Spiderman, Batman anyone?) Ever since I was a kid, I usually find the so called "bad" guys toys more appealing and unique. Srly who doesn't like Darth Vader? :P

I don't get it either. Megs, Soundwave and Starscream were my all-time favorites when I was growing up (all three of whom, coincidentally, survived at the end of ROTF. Which means they'll be back for TF3! ).

The repaint strategy is, IMO, a branch out of the first one. Since they believe good guys are more profitable, repainted good guys will make kids buy two of the same figure they like. It does work to a certain degree. Take the seekers for instance; one mold, different characterizations, a dozen repaints, and everyone wants a complete collection of what is essentially the same figure. One hitch, though. It has to be a fan favorite.

This way, it more than makes up for the cost of the molds used to manufacture the figures.

I get what you mean, but it just seems kinda redundant to have so many versions of the same action figure. In the case of TFs, the repaints are ok in that its usually sold as a different character and some type of reference to old characters. Those trio are also my favorite since G1, let's hope Soundwave doesn't get killed off if he does get an earth mode. :P

True, this repaint strategy doesn't really work outside of the TF franchise. The only kinds that might want five differently colored Batman figs are either obsessive compulsive collectors, or scalpers with extremely bad foresight :P

And yes, let us pray for the continued well-being of our brother Soundwave...

If scalpers do go for these different Batman/Spiderman figs then they fail as scalpers. It's usually the 1 per case villains or w/e that actually have collection values. :P I think I read somewhere that Soundwave was intended to have an Earth mode in ROTF, but the idea was scrapped. :-?

He was originally going to be a surveillance SUV. I saw the concept art somewhere online, but I'm not sure where.

Um, the thing about the scalpers was a joke :)

As for Soundwave, he was supposed to be either a surveillance SUV like magnusalpha said, or some GM pickup truck. I think the SUV was the first concept, followed by the truck in later redesigns. IMO, the idea was scrapped probably due to the global recession, which pretty much bankrupted GM. Guess they could only afford to have some of their vehicles (Bee's Camaro, Ironhide's Topkick, the twins' compacts, and Jolt's Volt hybrid) advertised in the movie.

If they actually made Soundwave into a SUV that would've pretty much like his Animated self, which would be pretty sweet =P~ . Personally I like to see Soundwave as a Dodge Viper. :P

So who's left?

I WANT:

G1 Devcon: A cool, blue Autobot bounty hunter. Yes, he could be an ehobby repaint of Scourge. But I'd rather he get his own mold. I made a decent mod of Classics Mirage into him, but he just doesn't have the "bulk" feel Devcon needs, even if his alt mode looks spot on.

There aren't many characters past G1 that never got a toy, come to think of it. After G1, if it didn't have a toy, it didn't get a character, simple as that...

We got Dion and Orion Pax? Where? I missed this somehow.

There was a convention exclusive Devcon I believe, but it didn't have much in common with the G1 character, which I'd like to see.

Would love to see Scrounge from the old G1 Marvel comics too.

I'd really love to see something finally come of Transtech, especially Transtech Cheetor!
I guess War Within Prime is pretty similar to Transtech Prime, and Armada Scavenger was based on Transtech Scavenger.I also heard that the Transtech prototype Starscream made it out, not sure as what figure though.

Oh, I forgot another Transformer I wish they'd make: An actual transforming Dispensor (the Robot Heroes one just doesn't cut it; I want it to actually transform into a Mountain Dew vending machine).

Orion Pax & Dion were released in 2005 in Japan. They're redecos of Kup & Wheelie, released together in the same box as a Collector's Edition.
