The hips do look a bit awkward - I think they're mis-transformed or not collapsed properly into the body. Compare the pic above to the prototype:

well.. considering the datsuns and lamborghini's didn't have a problem with that.. i'd say that wheeljack wouldn't either.. plus.. hot rod had a bunch of panels that folded up onto his back.. wheeljack looks like he only has one.
