My Optimus' legs won't stay standing. Whenever I swing them down, they go straight back to the vehicle position. Help me! I got the figure loose at BotCon 2010.

Sounds like either the spring for the ratchet has broken/worn out/vanished or the peg on the ratchet has broken/worn out. Perhaps you could wedge something in the back of the joint to lock it there so he can stand.

The legs should separate when they swing down and kind of click into place on each side of the bumper.

Make sure they are separated so the mechanism can catch.

Is it a vintage G1 or a re-issue?

I agree on the peg/teeth on the ratchet has worn out. If it's the spring issue, I don't think it has the force to pull the leg back up.

Hm, usually I tended to hear it the other way around. People would complaint the leg doesn't hold up in vehicle mode when you lift him up. The leg would swing down to robot mode position. Anyhow, good luck, hopefully you could resolve the issue.

Is it even possible to swing them down without separating them?

Nope-it is all one mechanical motion.

True, but at least on my 25th anniversary Prime, the left leg sometimes will not move out enough to catch, and so it springs back, I have to manually move it every so slightly so it clicks. This does not happen to My Encore 01 Convoy.
