Anyhow, it's true that the colors changed during development. You can see some remnants of grey Galvy in his alt. mode in the movie as it's grey and not purple. If that bums you out, just look to the TV show where it's purple.

To be honest, thats not much of a liberty to take. Having the arms do a level of morphing is forgivable - imagine how G1 would look if all the characters just looked like the toys!
The only thing they really did "wrong" with G1 Galvatron was having that sound and light show - if the chest was empty - a great deal of the legs could have been stored there, giving us a much more cartoon accurate space-howlitzer. And we can't blame Dery for that, really.

the Universe Galvatron head design is nice, but the size of it is a bit of a shame. Yes, Hot Rod has a pea-head too, but I think Protector armour will sort that. Galvy stands next to Cyclonus with his giant noggin, and seems very limited. The rest of his proportions are a bit wonky as well. The Voyager class complexity of the original design is likey the reason it's all messed up as a Deluxe sized toy.
G1 Galvatron was actually pretty cool at the time. Pretty far from screen-accurate, but then if they hadn't swapped the colours around he'd be no farther off than many others of his era, and a lot closer than some.
I'm not sure there's really an easy way to save the current version of the character. I can't see an add-on kit working well with either mode. Upscaling from a KO company would seem like a good idea, but the only ones I've seen have simplified the design, probably to avoid having a thousand different parts that won't ever stay together.
If there's a new one coming, I'm going to hope it's a Voyager, or big Deluxe so he can stand with Cyclonus and Scourge and look like their leader.
Also looking for Universe Repugnus and Overbite, Frostbite and Longhorn and any Webdiver toys.

I'm more of a critic about Galvy's animation model than his toy. I rather like his toy.
As for the animation model, we have flattened out arms, disappearing legs, and a torso that goes form bulky to cylindrical (although that's not really Dery's fault as his model was changed after he was done with it). Jazitoys had an interesting take on it and I'd like to see what HasTak could do with an MP.

It's not pink, I have one. I suggest turning the contrast on your TV up until it matches.
It's a pinkish/reddish purple, not a bluish purple as it was originally in the cartoon. I too would like to see them do a reissue of Galvatron with the proper purple.

Amelie wrote:I've always personally felt that G1 Galvatron is the best of the non-Diaclone 1986 line. He has excellent articulation for his time, a well sculpted face and he works well in all three modes.
The fact he doesn't really look like the cartoon isn't even a valid complaint, in my opinion - people love the Hotrod, Kup, Blurr, Scourge and Cyclonus toys, and they're just as screen innaccurate as Galvatron. Galvatrons only real problem is that it seems to be fashionable to complain about it.
I'm not really too fussed about the fact the toy is grey. One because I grew up with the Marvel UK comics, and two because the toys were never always the same colour anyways.
Also, I prefered the original head sculpt over the "improved" Takara version.
Watch there be a Bayverse Galvatron, and suddenly he'll jump upwards on everyone's favorite list. Because we're not supposed to live in the past or like older things, you know.

A new masterpiece Galvatron toy either purple/Grey or a universe version that remains true to the original.
It would also be very interesting if they attempted to have a skeletal megatron figure with parts that allow you to make either Galvatron or megatron (fully transformable) similar to the anakin with Darth vader armour etc...
