At the end, when Nate & Elena are arguing over whether he cried after he thought she died, it was a heartwarming, charming ending, and left me feeling damp eyed.

The ending where you become mayor and live with Rosaly is my fave. I love the Joshuas speech about heroism, saying that he isn't the hero of the war because heros don't kill others.

I remember one scene where Squall had to carry Rinoa piggy-back across this bridge that seemed like it would never end. That sequence definitely made me feel good...just about everything, people, the world, etc. And all from a little video game.
There have been others, in other games, but as video games go, that's one that leaps to the forefront for me.

The game story was amazing, it pulled you in and you felt like you and Jade (the main character) were connected. It was an awesome experience.

At some point, its going to stop being scary, the creepiness will wear off, and the atmosphere will lose it's punch. Still, really damn good game, even if it weakens over time.

I've never been scared of any game in my adult life. I remember finding the original Alone In The Dark creepy many a year ago (just checked and that was 1992), and thanks to Giga Darkseed has some truely disturbing visuals.

FF8 ranks as number two only because of the less coherent plot. Still, the way Squall slowly opened himself to his friends and Rinoa was played out very smoothly.
Surprisingly, Dirge of Cerberus gives me the warm and fuzzies every time I played through it. Vincent's story with Lucretia had always interested me, and the cutting edge CGI cutscenes in which the story was told helped a lot.
The Yakuza games rank a close third, especially Yakuza 3. The cutscene where the Sunflower orphanage gets demolished was the only time I actually rooted for a bunch of yakuza.
GTA IV's Nico Bellic was awesome as a sympathetic character forced into a life of crime. His relationship and banter with Roman was one of the highlights of the game as far as character development is concerned.
Is it strange that I feel Ace Combat 4 had a great story? The whole story being told from the viewpoint of a guy whose family was taken out by the ace pilot you killed in the end was a nice touch, telling the war from the eyes of a layman. The anime stills lent a nice atmosphere, too.

I kind of felt a connection to #6, and I had nothing but respect for here once I finished the big boss battle at the end.
I also shared her pain when she felt the hive and Queen die.
Which is strange because the other two characters didn't give me nearly the same experience.
The final scene of Resistance 2, damn I was devastated and dissapointed after seeing what happened to Sargent Hale.
All God of War games, right after the tuturials
F**k am I a badass!

Also strange because she's a parasitic alien who repeatedly murders innocent people, or, if not directly killing them, helping attach a facehugger to them so they can die slowly of giving "birth" to a new Xenomorph. Never mind that Xenomorphs are, as a species, giant walking rape metaphors.

That's the strange part, since I was expecting the human and Predator campaigns to have a larger connection to me, since you know me being human and all, and the Predator being (relatively) more human than a Xenomorph. What makes it even strange is that, I grew up freaking shitting my pants just by seeing an image of a Xenomorph, I freaking hated them growing up, without even seeing a movie with them, just based on the horrors I was described by others.

This was the only game I threatened to break my GameBoy Advanced if it wouldn't let me win the next Contest.
I'm Hardcore.
This is also the only game that stayed interesting enough to have me play on it all day, and after I was done, restart it, and do it all over again!
All in all, great game!

Aria? You mean Aeris/Aerith? Aria was a character in FF3 who, incidentally, also died.

Personally speaking, the best FF to date [only played Final Fantasy from FF7 onwards], reportedly just a rung lower than FF Tactics.
IMO, characterization has been inversely relative to cutting edge CG from then on. FF13 TRIED to bring back some emphasis to characterization, but IMO not quite as good as FF7.
Just my two cents' worth.

Except Final Fantasy IX, which probably had the most emotionally impacting characters in the franchise. I'm lookin' at you, Vivi.
