So what if your mom sold all your stuff for much less than you knew you could get for it while you were gone? How would you feel?

And don't give me that crap about you being on your own. Think how you would feel.

And yes, I know there are probably some circumstances in this that we don't know about, but a Shadow Commander set for $10 is telling me that this kid has no idea his collection is being sold. He might even be a member on this site.

You want to know how I would feel? PISSED at my mom, not the guy lucky enough to get over on her ass. This isn't preschool where we all hold hands and sing kumbaya. If my mom thought so little of my collection as to sell it off without my consent, I'd be angry with her. It's not the OP's fault the guy's family was insensitive enough to sell the items.

If you came home and saw your collection gone because your mom sold it off to a bunch of random people, you'd be a sad individual to sulk around your house pissed at the world because THEY bought what your MOM sold.

Over a month ago (coincidentally, June 29th-the opening day of DOTM) I was stumbling across several treasure troves at the local flea market. One vendor had a tote-full, mostly Beast Wars. I sifted through it, finding Optimal Optimus, original and Transmetal Optimus Primal, original Megatron II, and several more I can't remember, some Animated and Armada figures as well. I picked up the Transmetal Optimus and Megatron, then later I found a movie Barricade. The last vendor I visited had a G1 Optimus Prime (!). But since I already spent a lot of money, I couldn't scrounge up $35. S***lice.

He'd have to PM me and tell me exactly the address where I'd have bought it at for me to consider it. (how many people have viewed this post?) and a description of the place or mother I bought it from.

give it back....no, he could pay me back what I paid for it though. but I'd be game if it were that kind of circumstance.

Chances are, it was really being sold on purpose. People might have given up collecting... i think shadow commander was released 2 years ago. Also, going by the size of your state, the chances of finding the real owner (if he wants it back) its really minimal. But then again, no one would buy an FP on accident and sell it in a garage sale. To own that shadow commander in the 1st place he should at least know the kind of money it fetches on ebay... :-?

Also, i dont own a garage (thankfully) so my stuff would not "accidentally" be sold away. And at least my parents know that TFs fetch quite a sum of money on ebay. They've been trying to get me to sell away my movie-1 duplicates (of newer molds).

I could have gotten Fort Max at a garage sale when I was 7 for like 8 bucks. I didn't have enough, so I got Skorponok instead. :(

Amazing find, probably once in a lifetime!

I hit garage sales as much as I can, but I rarely find anything good. I need to start going to more flea markets or something, I think.

Not at garage sales but I did find a Armada Powerlinx Super Optimus Prime at Goodwill the other day for $2.99 - got home and realized I had left the trailer on the shelf (was being sold separately and I didn't realize they went together), went back the next day and it was gone. Same store had a ROTF Fast Action Battler Jetfire that I bought also for $2.99 (just missing his missile, but otherwise complete).

Last week I picked up a near-mint condition G1 Ramjet for $20, with all original stickers in good shape - he was just missing his fists, front landing gear, and 1 cluster bomb. I picked up the fists/landing gear for $15 shipped on ebay...the same store had a mint G1 Shockwave (for $100), G1 Starscream for $80 (with tech/bio), complete G1 Devastator ($150) and many other G1 goodies, but their prices were all a bit steep except for Ramjet which I thought was a good buy.

Yeah, there's a hobby store near me that has G1 stuff. For a long time, they had decent prices. But now they want top dollar for everything, so typically if you're patient it's just cheaper to buy stuff on ebay.

Yep, it seems even the mom'an'pop shops are pricing everything based on ebay prices! While I buy a lot of stuff on ebay, I definitely prefer buying something in person, plus the "hunt" factor is half the fun! The store with the G1 stuff I mentioned is an antique/thrift store of which 90% is toys. At least they will barter on the prices too (they wanted $25 for Ramjet, and I talked them down to $20).

that's my (cough) Black Optimus prime..... My mum sold you the wrong one, when she phoned to ask me which ones to sell, I said all but the Black one, She heard "All and the Black one" Can i have it back? LOL not really! just playing, Hey - the kid probably bought it off somebody else's mum, because it's not boxed, any serious collector would have kept it in a box - So i conclude even they didn't have a clue - so they did well by getting $10 for something they might of bought for $5!, anyway - I got this classics legends Bumblebee for 10p (about 7 cents) at a car boot sale,
identical to this -> Image

the original one I bought cost me a total of £50 with shipping and customs! when I asked the seller How much for this, he said um, 10p? He drove a tough deal, I had to give him a whole 10 pence LOL.

There are plenty of collectors who don't keep boxes. There is probably more that don't than do keep boxes.

This kind of stuff always makes me think of Toy Story 2.
In Toy Story 2, mom knew Woody wasn't junk and had sentimental value.
Perhaps garage sale mom didn't put out some more sentimental items, but all this new fangled junk had to go.

Um, mine isn't boxed. I have the box, but it's opened. Keeping it in the box would mean not enjoying the awesomeness that is Shadow Commander.

Does that mean I'm not a serious collector?

No offence taken but in my opinion, Optimistic Prime shouldn't feel guilty in the least. It was a legal transaction that happened to be in his favor. If the figures was sold by mistake then that is between the collector and his mother. Awesome find, wish it was me.
