GDO Springer, a waste?
GDO Springer, a waste?

The Vortex mold is a solid helicopter mold that could have easily been Whirl, Rotorstorm, or others, but rather they waste the opportunity and the money on a new head mold for a figure when the definite Springer was coming out less than a year later. WTF?
So what are you guys doing with your other Springers?

Seriously though, the GDO vs. Generations Springer leads me to believe that Hasbro Asia develops independently of Hasbro US as they are, legally speaking, two separate companies under the Hasbro umbrella name. Hasbro proper may have authorized Asia to develop the GDO series, without anticipating the future demand for the US at all. Let's hope they learned a lesson from that, and let's thank them for listening to us
As for Springer, I still plan on getting both the Triple Changer and the GDO one, blame my love of repaints. Thing is, Springer (and Wheelie by extension) went above and beyond with not just the new head, but also his new weapon. The Triple Changer will go with the regular display with Rodimus, Kup and Blurr, while the GDO one will go on the Expanded Universe shelf.
Yes, I plan ahead.

I don't think I have any TFs to make up a expanded universe allowing me to keep the other two. Its also true that there are more than one CHUG for both OP and Megatron but those are acceptions like anything else. In my CHUG collection I need only one Perceptor, one Astrotrain, and only one Springer.

I do wish I'd bought him when I saw him at TRU rather than pick him up secondhand after the fact, tho. I barely had the toy a few weeks before the triple changer was announced.
It's like my excess Optimuses/Soundwaves... I'll put him somewhere else, and probably display him in vehicle mode.

I wanted a nice green helicopter to call Springer, so started looking at the Universe Springer which looks great, but couldnt find him in the U.K. for a decent price; I looked at Energon Bulkhead but could never find one that was complete; I really, really wanted FansProject 'Springer' but the prices where just crazy!
Hello GDO Springer!
I got stung big time picking up GDO Springer with a bundle via a China based seller thanks to Mr Customs but at least I now had my Classics Springer.
Popped him alongside his Neo-Classics The Wreckers and he looked...small.
He a massive flipping Helicopter, not a one man mini copter?
GDO Springer will be deleted from my shelf as soon as the U.K. gets Generations Voyager Springer!
PM ME PLEASE!-

Either way, the GDO version still looks really cool and whether to be repurposed, customized or just kept around to show off the great chopper alt mode, I don't think it should bother any collector to have both in their collection.

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I am that which is, which was, and is yet to come.

Blurrz wrote:The new Voyager Springer is certainly a Springer that has finally ended the pitiful repaint attempts Hasbro and others have dished out in recent years, such as BotCon and Universe. What gets me is that GDO Springer was put out and I can't help but think there's a lack of thought and communication within the company if they're doing two 'CHUG' based Springer toys in such a short time span!

Just an opportunity for them to make money. They knew a proper Springer was coming out but we didn't so it was an easy sale on a popular character as a remold with a new accessory and new head.

I'd probably not have bought him had I known we were getting the Generations Voyager, but got him for an acceptable price (if only the same had been possible with GDO Wheelie) and am quite happy with him.
Also looking for Universe Repugnus and Overbite, Frostbite and Longhorn and any Webdiver toys.

Yeah, makes sense to me..
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

True, but he was a straight repaint, no new head. So it was easier for people to pass on him.

That being said, I am considering selling the GDO one. I really like the figure, but he won't be displayed anywhere. I'm sure if someone offered me the right price I would sell him.

He was a waste in a way, but I kinda like his copter mode better than the new one, but I need to buy one before I judge

If you're like me and you can appreciate a cool Transformers toy on its own merits, regardless of which character its supposed to be or how "cartoon accurate" it is, then no, it is not a waste. It's a cool toy that transforms from a cool-looking helicopter to a cool-looking robot and it's fun to play with and looks cool displayed on a shelf with similar toys.

I didn't realise quite how tiny GDO was, since I didn't own that mould at the time. If I had known, I would not have bought it. The mould works great for Spinister (although should have had a new head) but was pretty pants for Springer. I think a lot of people made do, thinking that there would probably not be a better official version.
I though it was commendable though that a couple of enterprising people added wheels to the GDO and made it a triple changer, it is like the many different ways people have made their own perfect Shockwave out of the Energon figure. That's the only downside of a great figure finally appearing, it discourages creativity somewhat!
